So yes fiction can do whatever it wants it literally defined as “untrue”. Science fiction is literally called not true science.

Bit like how Big Finish, comics and novels are not really canon but then you find some that are to the show. I like to think The Doctors timeline is always in state of change, it’s more of a fun way of looking at it
