@Jaereku Gojo catching strays for being a “manchild” when he’s actually written as the Platonic ideal of a sweet, supportive boyfriend is really funny, but I do understand how this scene in specific divorced of all context can appear that way.
@AlcoDs666@Jaereku Emilia IS insecure. Emilia’s insecurity did NOT drive the conflict of Arc 3. People are not saying that Emilia isn’t flawed. Is that what you think we’re arguing? Emilia’s insecurity DOES drive the conflict in Arc 4.
@Jaereku The whole “Actually Emilia is wrong because she’s treating Subaru like a child!” talking point thats been cropping up so much lately makes sense when you realize these are 13 year old boys and they hate women because their mom grounds them and makes them do chores sometimes
@666helldweller Sarah Moon is awesome. I highly recommend checking out her YouTube channel. She makes great videos.
The same men that whine about censorship and how “everyone gets offended at everything these days” always get offended when a woman makes a joke at their expense. How curious!
@ZeroSilver18@Jaereku Nothing I said in that comment is “Western politics.” And yes, Arc 7 is great! Not only does Subaru crossdress, but he also frees the slaves and leads them in rebellion against the government!
You can critique parts of a story while overall loving the direction and themes.
@Jaereku@aeolian550 I genuinely think there’s been an influx of younger male fans who are simply not old enough to have the emotional intelligence, experiences, and life lessons to understand why his behavior is wrong.
@Jaereku The sanitization of his behavior back then is really funny, because they want to herald Subaru as an example of amazing character development, but at the same time, assert that Subaru was never even really that bad to begin with. Wow, some development then.
@lextorias It’s really incredible how no one seems to have actually watched the video. Even the comments here aren’t related to your real argument. You’ve become the face of a position you never articulated. Not really a surprise since these people all have a script they stick to regardless
@AsarathaHS Yeah, Stormfront is a Nazi who astroturfs online discourse with right wing propaganda. And the whole first season of the show is a barely veiled 9/11, War on Terror allegory!
@Jaereku I know it’s wrong and the result of a translation quirk, but I kinda love it. It’s really unique. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the habit of saying it mabeast, it’s rooted itself in my brain.
@DarekaJay I hate Priscilla. Every emotional beat with Priscilla falls completely flat. Almost all the other characters grow to be better people, but Priscilla is privileged, malicious, and racist throughout. Hinging an entire arc on her is the biggest misfire in the entire series.
@Gluttony_Bishop It has a surprising amount of disabled rep. I remember reading Arc 7 with Al, Katya, and Rem (temporarily) at the same time that ridiculous discourse about how fantasy stories shouldn’t have disabled characters “because magic” was going on. Made me realize how good we have it
@ramennnnoodle Great change. I love the idea that he picked up this factoid and attributed it to Freud since it’s psych related. That, plus Freud’s work being all about repressed, unconscious desires and emotions, which is what we see play out next.
@AsarathaHS Going this route is the only thing that makes Subaru=Flugel interesting to me, something I otherwise had no interest in, because it manages to turn it into a intimate personal story. At this point I just can't see it going any other way that makes sense with the show's themes
@AsarathaHS Could they be brothers? Clones? No connection? I mean, sure I guess, but what does that MEAN? Fatherhood has become an increasingly large part of the series and watching Subaru become to Al what Kenichi was to him makes sense from a thematic pov
@AsarathaHS But all in all, the reason I find the Son theory compelling isn't about the mechanics of Authorities and Books of the Dead and all that. It's about what it means thematically. No other theory really jives with me because they're too focused on concrete explanations
