By the late 1970’s, it hovered around 5.05%

They paid low, single-digit rates for a substantial portion of their early careers

• Generation X:

By 1990, when Gen X entered the workforce, the rate had skyrocketed to its historical maximum of 6.2%

Generation X has paid the absolute top rate for virtually their entire working lives

Since Social Security is a “pay as you go”, those premium tax dollars went straight into funding the retirement of the generation before us for decades
