How would you map the monuments of St. Louis? Monuments are statements of power & presence. We sought to unfix entrenched mythologies & dividing lines of St. Louis using residents’ hand-drawn maps to reconstitute power, place, & memory. @pulitzerarts https://t.co/SIB7SnP4fp
"The pandemic has gutted the traditional business model of museums just as thoroughly as it has emptied the Venetian canals, & this may present the opportunity to build new systems rather than simply rebounding to the status quo" https://t.co/rF6vY2MdIj
Can the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic lead to pay reform, reorganization & improved working conditions in museums? https://t.co/rF6vY2MdIj Starting to tackle this difficult question on the CFM Blog @AAMers
#Thread for new museum activism, collectives, groups:
The last few weeks has seen a dramatic rise in museum activism on social media. This comes after museum execs & boards have resisted community accountability and internal reform for decades, our prof. associations too 1/
I have so many thoughts and questions about storage and conservation. While it addresses meeting online demand, this changes how the museum can engage its community as a physical space #hist581#siuemuseumst

How do you document history when you are living it right now? British museums grapple with recording, documenting, and archiving our extraordinary moment in time. #musesocial#museums https://t.co/4pVv3746rk
Serrel ch9 It was interesting to me that sometimes a museum's staff cant figure out how to successfully be user friendly, and outside help has to be hired. I was suprised by the stigma with humor too. #inspiration#userfriendlymanual#hist582#labelsareforstanding
Serrel ch 3.The label test @ the end of the ch. seems like such an easy way 2 test if your labels work within the big picture. I also liked the label idea for art museums-the text is in front of the exhibit but it's not practical #labelseverywhere#10fontsor< #hist582#labeltypes
Serrel ch 1 the big idea is key and everyone has to agree on it. It might take forever but your labels and exhibit will be better because of it. #consensus#inittowinit#writeitdown#hist582
CaputoCh3? Do you all have a "go to" place that you start for inspiration, whether its for writing, weaving, curating etc? Mine depends on the project but lately I've been admiring works by Carrie Gillen in stl to inspire some color palettes for my house projects. #hist582
@McneeseCathy The book kind of mentions it but I think in those cases, its larger and used more like an image as opposed to text even though its both in a way.
@McneeseCathy 2 ISU I met the professors and asked about methods covered, they said they could get me a book 4 that. They were more 4 exploring your feelings in https://t.co/7rB58jvxW7 brain could not compute. Some students thrive in [email protected] need order/ boundaries even if I plan 2 break
@McneeseCathy I think I am a combination of both. I am a firm believer in having to know the rules before you can break them.Of course their are exceptions but I can tell you a good story example that helped me realize that I cant fully embrace the artistic side of my brain.I had a scholarship
