Hello to our nearest neighbor in space 🤗
The Artemis II crew captured these views during their lunar flyby on April 6.

Earthset.
The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon.
This photo of Earth is EXTRA spectacular for a good reason... let me explain. Most images you see of Earth from space are the daylight side of the Earth, and it's obviously very bright (see my last image), this means stars are too dim to be seen with that bright exposure setting (low ISO, high shutter and / or stopped down aperture).
BUT this image taken by the Orion crew looks so incredible because you can see the sun is BEHIND the earth, meaning it's night time on the side of the earth facing the crew in this image.
So how do you expose a night time earth from space? Same way you do on Earth! A mixture of opening up the aperture (F4 in this case), cranking the ISO (51,200 here), and using a relatively long exposure (1/4 of a second). We can see the settings used by looking at the exif data from the camera. What this means is our camera is also sensitive enough to see stars in the background of Earth, leading to an extraordinary image!!! GREAT WORK!!! These are the kind of images I've been so excited to see!
Liftoff.
The Artemis II mission launched from @NASAKennedy at 6:35pm ET (2235 UTC), propelling four astronauts on a journey around the Moon.
Artemis II will pave the way for future Moon landings, as well as the next giant leap — astronauts on Mars.
"Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you—all of you on the good Earth"
Astronauts orbited the Moon for the first time in history on Christmas Eve, 1968. On their fourth orbit, they captured the sight of the Earth rising over the Moon's horizon, a photo dubbed "Earthrise."
This was such a fun photo to set up, to get the right lighting angle as we circled Earth, and to make time during the frenzied docked schedule. It was taken on a film camera by cosmonaut Thomas Reiter through Sergei Avdeev's sleep station window on the Mir space station. The sun was so bright in our eyes we (the Atlantis crew) were all squinting like crazy, waiting until Thomas confirmed he'd got the shot. But I love how it shows the texture of the Shuttle's rough, protective hide, and the glimpse of humanity (and my moustache) against the eternal blackness of the universe.

been pushing hard on the need for the UK to de-yank ourselves, but now really feels like the time to take this seriously
No way I want my country to continue importing yank politics, yank culture wars, yank foreign policy, yank race science, yank cultural slop, yank violence
Local media report that a group of 20 to 30 individuals put up dozens of flags across Norwich, including outside the Islamic community centre on Dereham Road, in what many residents described as an act of intimidation. The group chanted aggressively, revved motorbikes, and shouted slogans like “whose streets, our streets” while filming the entire display. Videos posted online included racist language and footage of members confronting locals. Here's the full response I gave.
“Everyone should watch the video for themselves. One member of the group laughingly refers to somebody as a ‘black cunt’ and threatens to ‘knock them out.’ They cheer the fact that they’re outside ‘a mosque’, then climb a ladder to hang a St George’s Cross flag from a lamp post, weaponising a national symbol to try to intimidate part of our community.
There’s no ambiguity here. This is racism, pure and simple. These are the tactics of the far right, overt racists and fascists. From Oswald Mosley’s Brownshirts in the 1930s to the National Front in the 1970s, and now here in our city, the pattern remains the same.
And let’s be clear: the same people turn up at so-called ‘protests’ outside temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. They wrap themselves in the language of protecting women, defending British pride, or being ‘just right, not far-right.’ But the mask always slips. Watch the video; it’s not about women’s safety, it’s not about patriotism, it’s not about common sense. It’s about racism and intimidation, scapegoating vulnerable people to divide our communities and poison our politics.
We’ve seen this story before, and we know where it leads. Our city is better than this, and we must stand together to say: not in our name, and not on our streets.”
In my late 20s, I was lucky enough to get my current job, and although it comes with its issues - for the most part, they treat their staff well.
And this is down to the excellent agreement with the union, that allows me to fight for my colleagues.

🚨 BREAKING: Greta Thunberg was aboard a Gaza aid ship hit by a suspected drone strike off the coast of Tunisia.
The vessel, carrying activists and humanitarian supplies, was set ablaze mid-mission.
Attacking aid workers is not war, it’s terror.
