I woke up thinking about victims of sexual assault, carrying a burden no one should carry, harboring a secret that should never be theirs, navigating a world that distrusts their experience. If they’re courageous enough to tell their truth we must be willing to listen and believe
Taylor Gamino was born w/ half of a heart. By the time he was 8, he’d endured 4 open heart surgeries & survived a stroke. In 2002, his parents co-founded Camp Taylor for children & their families. @River_Partners is restoring the camp's natural habitat: https://t.co/YjmLlzv5jH
Mark your calendars—Dos Rios, California's newest state park, opens June 12!
This park is a key asset to fighting the climate crisis, home to a floodplain restoration project. We’re not just protecting these spaces, we’re restoring them for future generations.
As we do each day, this Earth Day River Partners celebrates the power of restored rivers and floodplains in creating a thriving future for California’s environment and people. We’ve done it for 25 years and plan to do it for another 25 years and beyond. Happy Earth Day!
A fantastic opportunity and wonderful conversation with @egies about water, restoring floodplains, how our state has worked with water, and the benefits of beavers to our state's healthy water supply!

Five years after the Camp Fire, I wrote about what it was like covering the story of a lifetime. Here's a link from my local newspaper, the @ChicoER: https://t.co/twqQUCjN7f
Fantastic reporting by @JennyJarvie at the @latimes , diving into the science and purpose of the Human ID Lab at @ChicoState, one of the only labs of its kind in the nation. @calstate

Things that can be dangerous in a small town:
Being Black or a person of color
Being LGBTQ
Being a religious minority
Being a (non white) immigrant
Not looking like everyone else
Being different
I know because I grew up in a small town. It's so small it was a dry town that didn't allow sale of alcohol until that was overturned on a referendum in the 2020 election.
There were several times that hate symbols were spray painted on people's cars, on buildings, and on the local high school.
My parents were church goers. There were people at church who would talk to my white stepdad, but not me or my mom.
I now live in one of the most diverse cities in the US, and I love that.
I feel safer.
When I've had to drive through small towns in rural areas, I see Confederate flags, Trump signs, and I don't feel safe. Friends and coworkers have shared similar feelings.
Filming a music video at the site of a lynching, for a song called "Try that in a small town" is an intentional insult and warning to stay out if you don't "fit in".
We see you.
She's the biggest @alyankovic fan of them all. She told me he graduated from @CalPoly & that he recorded the song that began his career in an on-campus bathroom. Internet told me where this happened. I took her there. Her smile is everything @calstate#MadeInTheCSU
