The business needs to take a long, hard look at itself in the mirror & ask if all the exclusion in the name of "risk management" is really working out when two lower budget horror films are ruling the box office. Why don't we raise these budgets a bit, offer support, & repeat?
@jenna_payne@DisasterCap Really really connect to everything you said in this thread. After a decade of making 7 shorts that have grown in scale and success in an attempt to build to $1 million feature debut, my partner and I (a queer direction team) feel so burnt out.

cool that original horror is dominating the box office but i still want to bring back the adult drama like i want to go see a new movie like forrest gump or shawshank redemption or eyes wide shut in the cinema.
Talked about CURE this morning with friends; thought this piece had been scrubbed from the Internet; happily it still exists; sharing it now to celebrate https://t.co/YRUgHBBte5
@FreddyInSpace@PMDMKE I think so much film and television has become so spelled out, in your face, and expository that a lot of folks don’t know how to even handle small beats that are showing instead of telling anymore.
Maybe it's the autism, but the industry often has me asking, WHY do we do it like this? And I basically just decided I wouldn't and built @DisasterCap focused on emerging writers & directors in horror and giving them the support - including leadership skills - to do it better.
EXCLUSIVE: Sources say Chloé Zhao ultimately proved a mismatch for the “Buffy” reboot, with the pilot reportedly undershot and lacking coverage, requiring reshoots.
Her filmmaking style, while acclaimed, didn’t translate to a dialogue-heavy TV pilot, and the new cast’s performances were said to be under-directed, making it difficult for the characters to land.

a few years ago -- before emerald fennell even announced she was adapting WUTHERING HEIGHTS -- I wrote about how much I personally vibed with andrea arnold's 2011 adaptation, and how clear it was that fennell was mimicking elements of it in SALTBURN. anyway you should watch
My family pretty routinely went to the movies when I was growing up and it was never a big deal that the theater was a few towns over CAUSE THAT WAS JUST WHERE THE THEATER WAS.
@realJaredGilman Always try not engage with that types of takes on the filmmaking process. It probably was intentional like you said and even if it wasn’t intentional what editors would really consider not using a take for this happening in the background.
Disney isn't making these bits; the people are.
Any mildly woke take that comes out of their shows, movies, or shorts is because of the real people who make them.
I have an employee, Sarah, who has been my right hand for 6 years. She opens the shop, closes the shop, and treats the business like it's her own. Yesterday, she came into my office shaking, handing me a resignation letter. She said her mom was diagnosed with dementia and she needs to become a full-time caregiver because she can't afford a nurse. I tore up the letter. I told her, 'You are not quitting. You are on paid leave until you figure this out. Your job will be here, and your paycheck will hit your account every two weeks.' I’d rather take a hit to my profits than lose a loyal human being to a tragedy she didn't ask for.
Good people are hard to find, we have to protect them
