It's boring to try to understand mindset of Japanese.
If something is wrong, it's not because people say it's wrong.
There is something called humanity/morality which are essentials making us different from animals.

A few years ago, I watched one of those street "experiments" where a Japanese person went around Nanjing asking passersby, "I'm Japanese—would you be willing to give me directions?" and I honestly felt deeply uncomfortable.

It felt like going to the home of a family you'd nearly wiped out and asking their descendants, "Hey, you're not still narrow-minded enough to hold a grudge about the past, are you? Let me see if you can treat me with equanimity now."

In that video, men and women of all ages helped her, and one person even said something like, "We won't hate you just because you're Japanese." But my thought was: what if someone saw you and simply refused to help? Wouldn't that be a permissible flicker of emotion? Why are we the ones being put in a position where such demands are made of us? Why must the victims be expected to maintain 100% composure, just so the perpetrators don't feel uneasy? What gives?

They did not face Nanjing. They did not face the names of the 300,000 victims. They did not face the experimental reports of Unit 731. They only faced an ordinary Chinese citizen who was stopped on the street, unprepared, and who responded with kindness out of basic decency—and then they took that kindness as "proof of reconciliation," packed it into their luggage, and brought it back to Japan.

This is a sleight of hand and an emotional appropriation. They steal the kindness shown by Chinese people out of personal decency and misuse it as evidence that Japan "has already been forgiven." But the act of being forgiven should never be carried out by random passersby on the street.

So I'm just gonna say I hate this type of "wholesome" tweet. It's sneaky and making me uncomfortable. It's unfair to the Chinese people who were massacred and experimented on and now burdened with the responsibility to forgive.
