[WATCH] "I don't like it [the marches], we have children from foreigners... who's gonna support the child? I can't support the child alone," says a resident in Cape Town expressing frustration and concern over March and March's anti-illegal immigration demonstrations. #Newzroom405
Over 100 people are sleeping on the streets tonight outside the Zimbabwean Embassy in Cape Town.
Women. Children. Families.
In the freezing cold.
A society is judged by how it treats the most vulnerable.
Right now, we are failing.
It was a mistake for SA journalism to try and keep up with social media.
We should have let the social media “citizen journalism” loop 🔁 run independently while we focused on professional and ethical reporting.
Instead, we followed people who randomly observe events and start recording… then they turned the camera around and recorded themselves!
Now, most headlines are either click bait or hot takes!
And sometimes, I can’t even tell if some journalists are moonlighting as influencers…
Especially when they walk the red carpet and take selfies with politicians.
Very confusing sometimes 🫤
@__NadiaN I live around the corner from it & I still ask myself why anyone would ever torture themselves like that. Give me a safe amusement park any day - bungee; hayi khona 👋🏽💀
I've always maintained that 'I would never bungee' with a small adventurous streak that internally says 'perhaps some day'. But now, never, Never, neva! Yhu!

[WATCH] South Africa's mining licensing system has long been criticised for delays, overlapping rights and a lack of transparency. These challenges have frustrated investors, sidelined small-scale miners and created gaps exploited by illegal mining. Now the government says a new digital system will help clean up the sector by streamlining applications, improving oversight and opening the door to new entrants. But after missing its original rollout target, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources is now aiming for full implementation by March 2027. @NtoksKhumalo reports.
