W.A.B. - A memorial
Three years ago, I made a short film about a man named Wynn Alan Bruce.
On April 22, 2022, he died outside the U.S. Supreme Court in an act that drew attention to the climate crisis.
I’m sharing it today.

Blue Heron was shot in 20 days, aimed for 9 hour days + rarely started before 9AM (I’m not a morning person) 17 person crew, everyone had an active purpose on set. We had fun local snacks subsidized by contributions from friends. We had many wrap parties. We all love each other.
10 (+1) highlights from last night’s wildly entertaining Q&A @lallianceny with Jean-Pierre Gorin, after a screening of Renoir’s TONI. It’s the first night of J-P’s weeklong state visit to Mamdani’s New York.
88:88 is now back online, thank you to all the movie theatres and people who celebrated its 10th anniversary.

In memory and honor of the sociologist and philosopher Edgar Morin, who, in 1960, published the essay in which he coined the term cinéma-vérité and co-directed, with Jean Rouch, the film—Chronicle of a Summer—that showed what he had in mind. He passed away yesterday, at age 104.
I reflect on 20 years of Cannes attendance, and share some thoughts on Mungiu’s Palme-winning (and very bad) FJORD, Dupieux’s playful VERTIGINOUS, Harari’s stunning THE UNKNOWN, for @mubinotebook

I decided to submit an entry to the Landjäger Kürzestfilmtage this year. The challenge: make a 12-second film!
My film made it into the public vote.

Can‘t wait to see this!
Also kind of fun to see Cannes bloggers have to deal with Grisebach. It’s not like she’s a incredibly radical filmmaker , but her commitment to a certain kind of realism seems to break some brains here.
Ich habe entschieden dieses Jahr, bei dem Kürzestfilmfestival einzureichen.
Mein Film hat es in die Top 100 geschafft, wo nun ein Publikumsvoting stattfindet!

I have little faith in the cultural institutions of film, but the fact that two of the greatest (and established!) American filmmakers (Hal Hartley & Patrick Wang) debuted new works in the last year and weren't invited to the biggest stages says a lot
Really frustrating how many critics (young and established) glaze over their local and regional scenes when it is not only good for your professional development, but the longterm sustainability of the industry!
