Highlights of Local Media Interview with President Isaias Afwerki - on international, regional and domestic issues
"Development is naturally predicated on stability. But that does not mean that it will be shelved even during the most adverse conditions. Development was not shelved even during the arduous times of the liberation struggle. So even in conditions of regional turbulence, our focus on, and pursuit of, our development agenda will continue with all the requisite rigour, commitment and priority. It will not be held hostage by other variables".

In his interview with the national media, President Isaias Afwerki (PIA) addressed key domestic, regional, and international issues, including the global upheaval accompanying the geopolitical transition from a #unipolar to a #multipolar world. He examined the regional and international implications of #US MAGA policies under President Trump, highlighting how these developments impact #Eritrea, the #HornOfAfrica, and the #RedSea region, alongside other ongoing regional dynamics. President Isaias also reiterated that in the complex and challenging times we live in, the only viable and sustainable path toward a stable world is the establishment of a world order based on equal partnership, one that is just, fair, and free from all forms of systemic exploitation.
#PIA underscored Eritrea’s longstanding commitment to constructive #engagement with the United States, despite challenges across different administrations. During President Trump’s first term, Eritrea’s initiative was met with a positive response and led to consultations, though tangible progress remained limited and later receded under the Biden administration.
In 2025, Eritrea once again initiated engagement and received and positive response from President Trump. While its too early to reach into a conclusive assessment, progress is still evolving, President Isaias reaffirmed Eritrea’s readiness to continue dialogue and cooperation on areas of mutual interest, particularly prioritizing on issues of peace and development in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

Abiy's Potemkin party X account just posted : "#Ethiopia as a landlocked country wants a maritime access based on international law using the rights of landlocked countries, fully aligned with international legal order! "😆😆 ህድማ ንቅድሚት።
It must be embarrassing to be a Potemkin Party. Running like headless chickens and destroying Ethiopia in a process.
Afar people in Ethiopia are not a joke. They are resolute and will never allow their land to be treated as a playground by the child in Arat Kilo. ይሰማል?
#Eritrea remains an oasis of unparalleled ethnic cohesion as well as religious harmony among all the Abrahamic faiths. This exemplary and iconic endowment stems from a rich historical heritage spanning for over a millennium and half (as illustrated in the attached link), and, that has been further cemented by judicious Government policies within a secular and inclusive governance architecture.

What is the problem with these Potemkin Party charlatans? How can one explain their delusional infatuation with Assab and Eritrea's sovereign coastal areas?
A couple of years ago, the President of the Oromia Region claimed that "Ereccha" will be celebrated on "the shores of the Red Sea" next year! Few days ago, some Army Generals unfurled an outrageous map that incorporates Eritrea's southern coastline! And now, this notorious member of Parliament and rabid advocate of domination pledges that "Christmas" will be celebrated in Assab next year!
Perhaps these political novices are bewitched by their new-found positions of authority: "ሜስ'ሲ ንዘይፈልጦ የጥርጦ"፥ ከም ዝበሃል።
The more apt explanation is the very substance and moral ethos of the Potemkin Party.
And in this respect, the Algebraic Formula needs updating:
Prosperity Party (aka Potemkin Party) signature media trademark is better encapsulated in the following algebraic equation; PP propaganda = Optics + Posturing + Deception + Disinformation + Delusion; (the five variables have different weights depending on the event/intended objective).

Eri-TV and Radio Dmitsi Hafash will conduct an interview with President Isaias Afwerki today - Monday, January 12th - on current international, regional and domestic issues.
The interview will be broadcast live by both services at 8:00 p.m. local time.
#PIA didnt mince his words when it came to the games #AbiyAhmed and his master #UAE play in Sudan and about Ethiopia war probaganda against Eritrea. We've seen many threats but nothing as cowardice as this puppet adminstration. So not entertaining it. We see it for what it is

Q3: On Sudan
The situation in Sudan must be understood within the country’s historical context, dating back to 1956. It should be examined not only from a bilateral perspective but within a broader framework. For the 30 years preceding the current crisis, the National Congress Party was embroiled in fomenting grave problems in Sudan and the wider region. Eventually, the Sudanese people could no longer tolerate the situation and overthrew the regime through a popular uprising.
The military establishment subsequently assumed responsibility as a trustee through the Sovereign Council. The main objective of the Transitional Council was to serve as a transient bridge until power could be transferred to a civilian administration.
We supported the idea of the Transitional Council guiding the country towards civilian rule. Accordingly, in 2022, we prepared a document and submitted it to the Transitional Council. The shared understanding was that the Sovereign Council would hand over power within a maximum period of three years. However, external interferences obstructed this process.
The main objective of these external actors was to destabilize the region by exploiting the crisis in Sudan. The primary destabilizing actor has been the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The crisis in the Sudan cannot be portrayed as a civil war; or merely as a rivalry between two Generals. These are transient bodies with time-bound, care-taker, mandates. In this perspective, supporting the Transitional Council remains the most viable solution so as to pave the path for enduring peace under civilian rule.
Unrealistic notions and platitudes floated by various bodies (UNSC, QUAD etc,), and the proliferation of initiatives will only prolong and compound the crisis. Egypt and other regional countries should play a constructive role in realizing the vision and the earnest quest for enduring peace and stability in Sudan.
"When you do not understand Eritrea, it is often because you do not understand what it means to exist without a safety net. You measure progress by speed. Eritrea measures it by stability. You measure legitimacy by recognition. Eritrea measures it by continuity. You trust systems because they protected you. Eritrea trusts itself because nothing else did."

The accession of Eritrea to the United Nations.
"#Eritrea came to independence following a long struggle through a democratic act of self determination, the United Nations is proud to have been associated with that process and with the birth of Eritrea as independent nation. The flag of Eritrea should now be raised! "
The only document and process Abiy needs to know how Eritrea became independent state is illustrated in this clip. But I am happy for him to continue looking for the documents in his drawers for the rest of his days.
A SHIFTING AXIS: SAUDI STRATEGY, EMIRATI AMBITIONS, AND ERITREA’S EMERGING ROLE IN RED SEA STABILITY
Alliances in the Middle East rarely collapse with a declaration; they unravel when interests diverge beyond repair. Saudi Arabia’s relationship with the United Arab Emirates has reached that point. What was once presented as a seamless partnership between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi is now being reassessed within Saudi strategic circles as a liability, one that threatens Saudi Arabia’s borders, maritime security, and long-term regional standing. This reassessment marks not a tactical disagreement, but a structural shift in how Riyadh understands power, sovereignty, and stability across the Arabian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa…..
…..As Riyadh strengthens ties with states such as Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, and Eritrea, it is laying the groundwork for a new alignment based less on ideological affinity and more on shared assessments of threat and order. Whether this realignment succeeds in delivering lasting stability or inaugurates a new phase of rivalry remains uncertain. What is no longer in doubt, however, is that the assumptions governing Gulf cooperation over the past decade have collapsed. Saudi Arabia has stepped out of the shadows of quiet accommodation, and the strategic map of the Middle East and the Horn of Africa is being redrawn accordingly.

#Eritrea: An African Land where Christianity and Islams Arrived Early—and Live in Harmony
“Long before religion became a marker of conquest, exclusion, or civil war elsewhere, the land that is now Eritrea was already a place of sanctuary. Here, faith did not arrive at the point of a sword, nor did it demand the erasure of what came before. Christianity reached Eritrea’s shores centuries before it reached most of Europe, and Islam found refuge here at the moment of its greatest vulnerability. This is not a story of religious dominance, but of religious coexistence and harmony, one forged not by doctrine alone, but by geography, commerce, hospitality, and an enduring ethic of tolerance. Eritrea’s religious history is not merely ancient; it is exemplary. It reveals a civilization that absorbed faith early, preserved it deeply, and learned, long before modern pluralism, to live with difference without fear.”—@Yehdavid

....... DOMESTIC DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES
#Development is naturally predicated on stability. But that does not mean that it will be shelved even during the most adverse conditions. Development was not shelved even during the arduous times of the liberation struggle. So even in conditions of regional turbulence, our focus on, and pursuit of, our development agenda will continue with all the requisite rigour, commitment and priority. It will not be held hostage by other variables.
In this perspective, we have mapped out concrete and prioritized developmental and sectoral programs for implementation in the six Administrative Regions. These include;
Physical #infrastructure in terms of roads (in the main arteries as well as feeder roads);
Water infrastructure: dams of all sizes; treatment of catchment areas etc. with utilization of GIS-based comprehensive mapping and modern technology. The scheme includes higher utilization of existing water infrastructure as well as novel approaches including desalination.
#Energy development: the envisaged program is focused on a decentralized and hybrid generation of electricity – the latter includes thermal as well as renewable power generation with solar, wind and geothermal alternatives sources. Ultimately, nuclear power generation is also envisaged. The first phase is to generate 360MW additional power in 12 mini-grids throughout the country. This will be increased over time to 2000MW.
Other sectoral development programs include: mining, agriculture, fisheries and housing.
All these programs cannot be implemented efficiently without human capital. So #Education remains our highest priority. In this regard, the education system will be reviewed from Kindergarten up to the tertiary level. This is the broad road-map for 2026-2030.
ROLE OF THE #DIASPORA
The role of our diaspora, during our liberation struggle, was tremendous and unparalleled by all standards. This remains true in the post-independence period too as their patriotism is palpable indeed.
An actionable program to ensure their increased participation was worked out in the past years. Indeed, they have been very active in the political, diplomatic and information domains to supplement the work undertaken by our embassies.
The plan now is to enhance their vigorous participation in all the tasks of nation-building. In the first place, they will be encouraged to invest – individually or in groups – in all developmental sectors: #mining, #agriculture, #fisheries etc.
Their involvement in development of human capital will be of paramount importance too. They will be involved in introduction of new technology, research and other professional expertise that the nation needs.
The Government has worked out a #road-map for effective Diaspora involvement in all these areas. Of course, the task will require the development of a workable data-base to better identify all the resources and expertise that is available out there. This has been on the pipeline for some years now and it remains work-in-progress as there are elements of cyber-security that have to be worked out for obvious reasons.
In a nutshell, the drive is to ensure wider and qualitative participation of the Diaspora in nation-building. The requisite institutional framework is being developed to that end.

On PP’s proclamation of war and the agenda of two waters.
"We should not waste time on this issue (this question does not merit a response). The Prosperity Party is pursuing an agenda of war against its own people. In spite of the Pretoria Agreement, it is waging war against the Amhara, Tigray and Oromo peoples. It has declared war against us. It is bragging about Drones and weapons that it has amassed. We have no appetite for war. But we know how to defend our nation. Our vision was to foster good ties. But we should not be perturbed by PP’s agenda, which in essence is driven by the same external force bent on stoking conflict in the region and is behind the crisis in the Sudan. The PP’s mindset can be described by the following four attributes: Ineptness; bankruptcy, cowardice; and greed. In the event, we should not be distracted and give space to its delusional posturing. We must focus on our domestic developmental agenda." President Isaias Afwerki

The Day Haile Selassie Exploded at the Prospect of an Independent Eritrea
The document attached is deeply revealing of Haile Selassie’s state of mind when he learned that #Eritrea was expected to become independent after a 10-year trusteeship in 1946.
Thankfully, the declassified U.S. records clearly show how Eritrea’s fate was manipulated—how an illegal and unjust federation was engineered through the machinations of both the U.S. and the U.K., each driven by its own geopolitical interests.
The document shared here captures Haile Selassie’s furious reaction: an outburst filled with emotional, irrational, and even childish statements, all triggered by the prospect that Eritrea would emerge as an independent state following a decade of British trusteeship.
Remember, this was on the eve of the Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting on April 30, 1946, where they were to discuss the Peace Treaty with Italy and decide the future of the former Italian colonies—Eritrea included.
[Document content]
Minister Felix Cole in Addis Ababa sent telegraphic report of his audience with the Emperor on March 26. The telegram added the following regarding the Emperor’s comment on the proposed trusteeship for Eritrea:
“Emperor said such proposal [trusteeship for Eritrea] to be followed by independence would not only do violence to racial, economic and historical facts but would profoundly shock Eritreans and Ethiopians alike. He assumed proposal had been made to avoid introduction of certain influences and tendencies likely to result from partition among powers of Italian colonies, but asserted that return of Eritrea to Ethiopia would be much better safeguard than regime in which such influences would actually be represented on Advisory Commission.”
His Imperial Majesty referred to various statements that proposed trusteeships of Italian colonies intended prevent partitioning them. Ten-years trusteeship followed by independence not applicable for Eritrea which was over three thousand years seat of #Ethiopian empire. Plebiscite in Eritrea tomorrow would result overwhelmingly favor reunion #Ethiopia even among Moslems. Ethiopia by tradition opposed Communism. If trusteeship planned protect Red Sea area against it best way would be return Eritrea to Ethiopia. British occupation authorities repressing pro-Ethiopian movement and encouraging delegations to Khartoum. Remarkable progress made by Ethiopia internally since end Italian occupation guarantee that Ethiopia could govern Eritrea and will submit plan therefore to peace conference. His Imperial Majesty referred gratefully to interview between Assistant Secretary Dunn and Vice Minister Aklilou at London.
In December 1944 Ethiopia had no choice but agree with British and therefore accepted continued occupation one-third its territory, Ogaden. British then stated required Ogaden (a) to prosecute war and (b) not to prejudice creation greater Somaliland for Britain at peace conference. British prevent all relations between Ethiopian inhabitants Ogaden and Ethiopia except Jighiga local court. Agreement re display Ethiopian flag ignored. Inhabitants propagandized against Ethiopia. Recently motorized division moved into Ogaden which regrettable since very nation criticizing Russian re Persia is itself taking similar measures.”
If Eritrea had a united, concious and influential voices, Haile Selasie and US could not have got away with long suffering and suffocation of Eritrea for 40 years.
Some of the laughable arguments are being used by Abiy today.
