As the new year has arrived, here's a no-context reminder from college aged Coach Vera and 50 Cent to any high school athletes trying to message me their tape.
Earned it! Just being real, some kids get their offers for winning the genetic lottery in height despite subpar play. I get why, but that being said...
This kid will put your favorite 6'4+ lineman in the dirt 9 times outta 10 ๐คท๐ป
@MarcusPlaysStuf@IhateMerkel22 Same my guy, I got it and implemented it with another symbol I connected with and two years later it's everywhere I go ๐ฎโ๐จ hopefully those strugglers were positively impacted by it like we were tho!
The other day i was crunching the numbers on physical characteristics of my Offensive Lines the first four years of my high school coaching career.
1st year (2022)
Avg. Height: 6โ2
Avg. Weight: 301
Season outcome: South State (semi-final round) appearance
2nd year (2023)
Avg. Height: 5'9 (rounded up)
Avg. Weight: 241
Season outcome: South State (semi-final round) appearance
3rd year (2024)
Avg. Height: 5'9 (rounded up)
Avg. Weight: 242
Season outcome: State Championship appearance
4th year (2025)
Avg. Height: 5'9 (rounded up)
Avg. Weight: 255
Season outcome: losing season
I crunched these numbers to see what my lines generally looked like from one year to the next.
Overall takeaways:
1. Always nice to have generational talent at the QB position (and somehow Gautier seems to have pumped out some of the best high school QB seasons seen on the Mississippi Coast for the past 10+ years, weird how that happens)
2. Size and weight help a lot, but to an extent. Too big = too slow. Too small while not being in good enough shape = not technique refined. We had a great year with 1500 lbs on the line, but we had success with lines that were 300 total pounds less too. Bigger size doesn't always mean better play.
3. Coachability is everything. That goes for me. Best statistical year I had as a Coach, I had help. My HC's son had some time off of work and was able to help out (I had 18-21 players on OL that year). Being able to split up groups and focus on smaller details with better time was awesome. Occasionally he would tell me things that he used during his time playing college ball that we could implement and it usually helped. Being open to collaboration and further learning is necessary from players, but your coaches too!
@lifeofdess___@datgirlawkward@marg000 I think it's that he took enough pills to OD, and before purging he became obsessed with Nikki so he forgot about that, ran to her, and by that time the overdose started taking place.
It's easy to see more positive gains in certain lighting. Been trying to focus on building my arm mass while maneuvering around a weak left shoulder and recurring tennis elbow. Isn't a ton of improvement yet, but I'm starting to see a lil more when I flex and microscopically more mass when I'm just existing.
The goal might still be a mile away but I'm a few feet closer today than I was yesterday
@LayneStaley1994@hoodigainer A great secondary route tho, I dream of a world where colleges recognize that a 5'10-6'1 that puts in hella work in the weight room and utilizes his leverage with great technique can be just as dominant as a 6'7 freight train with limited mobility
@LayneStaley1994@hoodigainer Hey now, we differ heavily on basketball but being a 3 star is more than 98% of prospects out there out there get ranked! Were you a 6'5 freak athlete or 6'2 technician haha
