John Lewis spent a lifetime fighting for democracy. He reminded us that "freedom is not a state; it is an act” — and that “each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.”
Four years after his passing, his words have never been more important.
Rep. John Lewis knew voting was sacred.
The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is a chance for us to make clear yet again that we cannot stand by as voter suppression and the disenfranchisement of communities of color infringe upon the rights of our citizens.

Congrats to the Maryland Corps Class of 2024!
Political violence is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate it – not now, not ever.
Ideas are won and lost at the ballot box.
That is the promise of our democracy, and it is an ideal we need to defend.
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline has answered 10 million+ contacts and saved untold lives since its creation two years ago.
While there’s more to do, today marks a significant milestone in the national effort to strengthen our mental health care infrastructure.
Democracy isn't just a static collection of institutions. It’s statehood for millions of disenfranchised people, a stop to voter suppression, and an end to partisan gerrymandering and dark money.
To defend democracy is to defend progress toward a more perfect union.
