Manufacturers are delivering exactly what everyone asked for: larger, more powerful, and, thanks to hybrid technology, more fuel efficient vehicles.

So, what is going wrong?

The disconnect is tactile and emotional. We traded mechanical feedback for isolated acceleration. We replaced durable ergonomics with cost cutting touchscreens. We added half a ton of battery ballast to mask compromised chassis tuning.

Cars became faster, but stopped talking to the driver.
