It’s telling that nearly all architects and engineers in the country would roll their eyes in horror at this and yet a) it would be completely normal 150 years ago & b) about 80% of the public would prefer it.
Some of the preparatory illustrations for the woodcuts for this edition. I had to work in 2 tones (black and white) and think about simplifying the forms for translation to the woodcut print medium - so blocking in ideas and compositions with marker was helpful.
It was my pleasure to do the illustrations for this edition of Frankenstein published by @OldSovPub . Here are some of the woodblocks that were used to create the prints.
@Wilhem_Ivorsson An understandable concern, but all the more a reason to take the sensible position on it.
The audience whom are worthwhile will recognise the distinction.
every bit as inspirational as a walk in the park. i’m so excited to get writing.
i really appreciate critical analysis that isn't just reflexively dismissive of Moderns like T.S. Eliot and who instead talk about them in the context of the broader landscape of literature
We agree with Sewell, it did become a mess. Thats why we made Solstice art magazine, so that people with respect for the arts could share their thoughts and engage. Even if there is disagreement there are always important discussions to be had!
