Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. - Ancient Greek Proverb
Society grows great when old men water the tree whose shade they’re sitting in with the blood, sweat, and tears of young people- Modern Canadian Proverb (probably)
@kofinas@Jonas_Haraldson I'm just throwing this in there but that part of the episode also really put me off, the rest was really good and sensible. I didn't like that part because it reminded me of ghostbusters, but the internet was the building and the antichrist was Zuu. Or maybe the omen. 🤷♂️
Stating the obvious:
Canada, Mexico & China are our top 3 trading partners & combined provide 40% of our imports.
Economic strength is 1 of 4 elements of national power: Economic, Diplomatic, Military & Information.
It won't be long before our economic policies negatively affect the other 3.
@kofinas@HiddenForcesPod@rupasubramanya the discussion really lacked nuance and she didn't seem to be able to engage on any nuance you tried to introduce. anyway, i can't say i learned as much from this convo as i do from many others.
@kofinas@HiddenForcesPod@rupasubramanya I found her to be one of the more bad-faith operators you've had on. She seems to see everything through the perspective of her political lens. i.e. if its good for my side its good, if it's bad for my side it's bad. i do agree that right to die has lost the plot, but the rest of
@kyomizuko@JohnPasalis Yes, it is subsidized with low property taxes paid for by higher income taxes and development fees. If that weren't the case, the cashflows would look different and the properties wouldn't be as expensive but keeping forever would be. It's a choice society is making.

@kofinas While i personally do not welcome the result. It’s what the ppl decided, if you ran a “flawless campaign” how did you lose? It’s nonsense, even in an interstate compact this result is the same. The candidate/campaign failed or the result would be different.
@danielfoch Whaaaa? Who could have imagined cutting ahead of the fed would result in this? Oh everyone with a basic understanding of yields? Ok. Well it’s a good thing we don’t really import a lot of things…
@kofinas Non technical Academia man, your choice is this or Peterson. Which is a shame because i feel like humanities have tremendous value. The pseudo intellectual pontification not so much.
Ok, thought experiment though. This already happens. What I mean is, if you could make the same money without traveling as far, why wouldn't you? Clearly the value of your travel is worth it, or why would you do it?
