Paank expresses deep concern and unequivocal condemnation over the latest incident of collective punishment carried out by Pakistani security forces in Balochistan.
On 26 July 2025, eight members of the family of Sohaib Ahmed Langov were forcibly disappeared from Mangochar, Kalat.
According to verified local reports, the detainees, consisting of close relatives including brothers, cousins, and other male family members, were taken without any arrest warrants, legal justification, or acknowledgement of custody.
The act constitutes a clear violation of Pakistan’s domestic laws, its obligations under international human rights treaties, and basic principles of justice.
This pattern of punishing entire families for the alleged actions of one individual is a hallmark of collective punishment prohibited under international humanitarian law.
Paank has documented numerous such incidents across Balochistan in recent years, revealing a consistent and systematic policy aimed at silencing dissent and crushing the Baloch people’s legitimate political struggle.
Tragically, the suffering of the Langov family deepened today with the death of Zar Bano, grandmother of Sohaib Ahmed Langov. Waiting in vain for the return of her sons, grandsons, and cousins, she reportedly collapsed while reciting the Holy Quran. Witnesses stated that she began coughing blood moments before passing away, a devastating reminder of the human toll of these enforced disappearances.
Enforced disappearances not only strip individuals of their liberty and due process rights, they also inflict severe mental and emotional anguish on families, often leading to long-term psychological and physical harm. In this case, the anguish has resulted in the irreversible loss of a family elder who died without ever seeing her loved ones again.
Paank stresses that this is not an isolated incident but part of an entrenched counterinsurgency strategy in Balochistan. Such tactics, including arbitrary detention, incommunicado imprisonment, and targeting of relatives, have been repeatedly reported by victims, human rights defenders, and journalists.
We call on:
1. The Government of Pakistan— to immediately and unconditionally release all eight forcibly disappeared family members of Sohaib Ahmed Langov, or promptly bring them before a court of law if there is credible evidence of wrongdoing.
2. International human rights organizations, including the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances — to urgently investigate this incident and exert pressure on Pakistan to end its policy of collective punishment in Balochistan
3. The global media and human rights community — to document and amplify the voices of victims’ families to ensure such abuses do not occur in silence.
Collective punishment, extrajudicial detention, and enforced disappearance are grave human rights violations. The continued failure of the Pakistani state to address or acknowledge these crimes entrenches a culture of impunity, eroding the rule of law and further marginalizing the Baloch people.
Paank reiterates its solidarity with the families of the disappeared and reaffirms its commitment to documenting and exposing all acts of repression in Balochistan until justice is achieved.
On August 12, 2025, Pakistani forces forcibly disappeared 𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵, 𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗯𝗱𝘂𝗹 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗺 𝗕𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗶, from Waheed Shah Chowk in Khuzdar city, Balochistan. Rehmatullah, a resident of Zehri, had traveled to Khuzdar to visit his relatives when he was unlawfully taken.
Following the incident, his family’s attempts to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station were met with outright refusal by the police.
𝗣𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗸 strongly condemns this blatant act of enforced disappearance and the denial of justice to the victim’s family.

My son was only a 16 year old student. The terrorist personnel of Pakistan’s Frontier Corps killed him because he refused to become an informant or collaborator. Those who collaborate with the Pakistani military should be ashamed.
