Fridah Mwendia, Africa Market Development Specialist, Clinical Operations, @IQVIA_global, challenged the barriers women face in science, emphasising that inequality isn’t always visible; it’s often embedded in policies and benefits that overlook who women truly are.
“We need to stop trying to fix the woman, and start fixing the system.”
A powerful call to rethink how we design equitable opportunities in science and health.

Dr. Atuganile Musyani, Epidemiologist, Global Health Security Agenda at @AmrefTanzania, shared her personal experience as a medical student and the challenges she faced along the way.
She emphasised that gender disparity begins in our minds and is ultimately reflected in our policies. A powerful reminder that achieving equity in health starts with transforming perspectives as much as systems.

Neetha Morar, Research Support and Engagement Specialist, @MRCza, said, "The language and words that we use are critical. Science is about asking questions and not just about clinical trials."

During the National Mental Health Conference 2025, #Amref's Dr Catherine Kanari underscored that sustainable mental health financing in Kenya begins with systems thinking , not stand-alone projects.
“We must create a dedicated Mental Health and Addiction Fund, integrate mental health into the #UHC benefits package, and align all partner and domestic resources around one national framework and shared results,” she said.
Dr Kanari called for unified governance, task-sharing through primary health care, and data-driven accountability to ensure every Kenyan can access affordable, quality mental health services , wherever they live. @MOHmentalhealth #SecuringTheFuture2025 #WorldMentalHealthDay2025 #Amref4MentalHealth

@SpeakerKLusaka, Governor, @BungomaCountyKe, together with @Amref_Kenya and @TikoAfrica leaders, signed a Memorandum of Intent to secure funding for the Youth Empowerment Centres for Health (YEC4H).
The need is urgent: 19% of Bungoma girls aged 15–19 are mothers, 1,679 adolescent girls were newly infected with HIV in 2023, and youth account for 38% of GBV cases. In response, the partners are launching a 3-year YEC4H program to establish 45 youth-friendly health centres delivering sexual and reproductive health (SRH), HIV, #GBV, #mentalhealth, and empowerment services.
Using a results-based public–private co-financing model, Bungoma County has committed about USD 2.32 million. Partners will bridge a viability gap of USD 6.97 million. To ensure sustainability, YEC4H staff will be integrated into the County payroll by Year 3, with County co-payments for outputs commencing after Year 1.5.
By 2028, YEC4H aims to achieve 30% fewer teen pregnancies, 40% fewer new HIV infections, and a 50% increase in GBV support, providing a model for youth empowerment and health equity.

@Shakwei highlighted the importance of having an innovative mindset and thinking creatively as an innovator. She inspired the students to reimagine Africa's narrative by creating bold, healthy solutions that showcase Africa's strength, innovation, and resilience to the world.
Speaking at the ongoing #AfricaHealth and #MedlabAfrica 2024 conference in Cape Town, @BeingLolem, Chief of Staff & Group Programmes Director, @Amref_Worldwide, posed some thought-provoking questions that should challenge how we approach partnerships for #development:
What if we removed money from the equation?
💭 How does money shape our priorities and influence what we do?
🤔 Are we spending time and resources doing the right things for the right people at the right time?
