In an attempt to polish his image, Assad launched the largest campaign of the century to erase evidence of mass murder: the removal of Syria's biggest mass grave and its transfer to a secret location in the #Damascus desert.

The Qutayfah mass grave, notorious and well-documented through satellite imagery, contained the remains of 60,000 to 80,000 victims of Regime's detention & security centers.

Their bodies were exhumed and secretly reburied deep in the Eastern Damascus desert, under an operation codenamed "Move Earth".

Between 2019 and 2021, convoys of 6 to 8 trucks carried human remains 4 nights a week, totaling an estimated 2,600 trips.

Authorities have now sealed off the site, after Reuters uncovered it.

However, the chances of identifying the victims are close to zero - their remains scattered and mixed across a vast expanse of desert, making DNA identification an immense and costly challenge.
