@episeedlink fellows would like to thank our trainers, @Crevillen, and @abelendavila, and Dr. Manuel Piñeiro, and all who were responsible for successful completion of this insightful training course. 🧵(3/3)
Today in the course, @episeedlink fellows learned the theory of ChIP-seq and went through the protocol they will use for this week. Lastly, @crevillenlab and Jose, the trainers, showed them how to do crosslink and chromatin extraction
@episeedlink fellows continue his/her ChIP seq training at the @CBGP_Madrid. Yesterday, they did the Chromatin Immunoprecipitation. Today they will finish recovering our DNA and do library preparation
“It is incredible to see how eager the general public is to learn about the science that goes on in the Institutions around them! Similarly, hundreds of scientists set time aside to engage in citizen science. ... 🧵
One of our @episeedlink Fellows, @shannonderman shares her experience of Scientifica, Switzerland’s largest science festival. Follow the 🧵 to know about her experience.
After 3 months of @ShannonDerman and @B_Shreyas01(@episeedlink fellows) working hard at @bioatlantis to optimize methods for seaweed extract-based seed priming for Arabidopsis and Brassica respectively, they are sad to part ways¡ Know @ShannonDerman opinion about secondment on🧵
Our last #EpiseedlinkPlaces post is on the University of Zurich (@UZH_en), where our 11th fellow @ShannonDerman is working on the transcriptomic and epigenomic effects of seed priming on seedling establishment during drought. To find out more follow the 🧵
@ShannonDerman, one of the @episeedlink fellows has begun her experiments during her secondment at @bioatlantis. She is testing the effect of biostimulant-based priming on Arabidopsis seeds, and if this priming can induce drought stress tolerance in Arabidopsis.
Sequencing, sequencing and more sequencing! Nine flowcells in four days. Improving the Spekboom draft assembly by adding additional ONT data with the support of DIPLOMICS. @diplomics_sa@JohnInnesCentre @WoutersRoland @steuernb @dsigovza
In case you missed it, we caught up with @ShannonDerman of the @CenGenZA team, 10 wks into their project to sequence the genome of the indigenous Spekboom plant.
Also a great opportunity for knowledge transfer.

What a week!! The @episeedlink supervisory board reunited at the @CNB_CSIC has been evaluating 22 pre-selected PhD candidates: Introduction of the Network, Candidate Presentations and Interviews, and a final Team work Challenge!
Final selection of candidates ongoing!!

1st Spekboom Sequencing Runs on African Soil!
CenGen has a long-standing link to scientists @JohnInnesCentre, UK.
@steuern has shared his experience on the bioinformatics analysis of the complex wheat genome with SA plant scientists multiple times.
*Knowledge Transfer is the key**
DNA Extraction from certain plants can be tough! Thankfully, @CenGenZA's recent work on generating the whole genome sequence of Spekboom has placed them in a position to help other scientists with their research.

What an incredible learning experience it has been! Our paper showcases the feasibility of genome assembly and gene cloning in wheat! South African wheat to the fore!🌾🇿🇦
First ever for SA wheat science!🇿🇦
We just published: Long-read genome sequencing of bread wheat facilitates disease resistance gene cloning.
Thank you for an incredible international collaboration @simonkrattinger@anaveen07@AbroukMichael@UFSweb
