I have to admit that it's great seeing a city the size of NYC collectively absorb and enjoy a singular experience simultaneously. Social media and phones have robbed our generation of communal experiences, and its return is a reason sports is valuable for the social fabric.
sports in the streaming era are so cool. is it easier to find? no. is the broadcast weirdly dark and gray? yes. is the connection more reliable? definitely not. it must be cheaper then? also no
Could a Buffalo-area chemist get on top of creating the new paint color, Marty Biron’s Iris ™️? I’d like an accent wall in my bedroom that pierces my soul. #GoSabres 🦬 ⚔️
I miss the days when voting meant you had to go behind a curtain like you were in the dirty section of your local video store and then you just started pulling knobs and cranking levers like you were the fucking Wizard of Oz. It was phenomenal.
I think commercial jingles from the millennial childhood golden era (‘80s-‘90s) should now be an option at karaoke. It guarantees shorter wait times for the mic; increased participation; and the communal nostalgic glow that builds community and likely increases bartender tips.
Man, remember that old Big Red gum commercial… “Kiss a little longer”? That jingle ran for years in the 70s and 80s and somehow every kid in America had it stuck in their head. The Wire ended 18 yrs ago today. It’s been taught in Ivy League schools, law schools & film schools. David Simon was interviewed by a sitting president about its lasting impact. Cited in a State Supreme Court ruling. Often hailed by critics as the best ever. Never won an Emmy.
I enjoy the quadrennial reminder of what a natural fit I would be for curling, since it involves two of my most prized skills: yelling and mopping. #WinterOlympics
You can find me (and I imagine Sean McDermott) staring off into the middle distance while listening to “Iris” on repeat for at least the next fortnight or two.
