Absolutely damning evidence from Helen MacNamara. The way senior female policymakers who raised concerns over women’s vulnerable position during lockdown were ignored links to why women’s social & economic interests were sidelined in key policy decisions.

We don’t tweet much anymore and there’s lots of reasons for that but I want share a short thread about sport and our family since we wrote The Gender Agenda
I’ve been thinking a lot about how things current covid situation is impacting women (compared to prior waves)
Big difference is that schools are / going to open, so this major childcare / homeschool burden from 2020 is in theory relieved
But this doesn’t = no gendered effect
Tonight, please remember domestic abuse increases when England play, and rises more if they lose.

Today, despite 100k people joining our campaign @GraziaUK @PregnantScrewed the govt wrote to us saying they will not even consider an independent review into childcare in the UK. Even while some parents face bills of £52k and thousands of nurseries close due to underfunding.

Can't help thinking that this v poor quality scan of a letter... is rushed out to try to make amends for the other ridiculousness this week about #parentinginapandemic?
I.e. Sunak and his 'mum duties' 😡 and *that* awful Govt ad about staying at home?!??
I want to say a huge thank you to the parents, carers and guardians of children.
Millions of you have coped with the pressures of home schooling and childcare while also doing your day jobs. And by staying at home you are, quite literally, saving lives.
#SharedParentalLeave is not working.
But what should replace it?

@maternityCPD @kinzalouise @TillyTeacher I've previously done some FOIs re SPL. It's not perfect but can be possible to ask for numbers who've received Shared Parental Pay as that will be in employment/pay/finance records. One problem is that not all people taking SPL will be getting ShPP, but it's a start??
Are you breastfeeding and due to be vaccinated for COVID-19 in the next few weeks? Would you like to take part in @imperialcollege research about how your milk responds?
