On 26th June I purchased a section of turmeric rhizome from the local Carrefour. Rather than consuming it, I grew it. Now, 4 & half months later I have a handsome plant standing almost a metre high. ;-)

Calotropis procera (sodom's apple can be a much overlooked tree because it grows alost everywhere in the UAE. Seen here on the sand dunes of the Bbotanic garden site. However, I think it has huge potential for horticulture in the region.

Fruit & germinating seed of the palm Salacca zalacca or snake fruit. It has a curious flavour. Interesting to see how the radical developes from, I assume, the micropyle...
