Around this time, 82 years ago, 2/KSLI advanced inland through these fields after landing on Sword Beach. No sooner had they set off, local lads Walter Dodd of Ironbridge and James Mortiboy of Brownhills were killed amongst the wheat.

Thinking of them this #Dday anniversary.

The LRE UK can announce on the 14 November a new historical trail in Coventry will be available , ‘Destruction, Courage, and Coventry’s Spirit’.

This release is to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz on 14 November 1940.

For the 85th anniversary of the November Coventry Blitz I will be launching a new historical walking route around Coventry.

This is part of the ‘Liberation Route Europe’. The Coventry blitz route is part of certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme that was launched in 1987 to demonstrate, via journeys through space and time, how the heritage of the different countries in Europe contributes to a shared cultural heritage.

We have over 35 historical points of interest to visit and the project has been left open for more to be added in the future. The route covers fascinating stories, mainly on civilian acts of heroism and bravery from teenage civilians, Nurses, Police and Fireman.

This will be launched on 14 November 2025. The intention is to offer a free guided walk of parts of the route to tell the stories over the weekend of the anniversary.

Today at the National Memorial Arboretum, not only did we attend the commemorative service to remember D-Day, we visited some other of the units memorials.

@ShaunColdicutt at the KSLI memorial, a unit close to his heart, landed on Sword Beach on D-Day reaching Lebisey Wood by the evening before withdrawing.

The Parachute Regiment memorial, remembering the British 6th Airborne Division that dropped and landed on D-Day.

The DLI Memorial, who landed on Gold Beach D-Day, I was thinking of @Errass40 and all the veterans he knew over the years.

The LST and Landing Craft association, without the naval contribution, D-Day would not have been possible. Many crews would be killed or wounded during the landings.
