@Shamsi394577@BakwasNaKarain It's a coinflip, they're either significantly more secular, or massively more conservative and hardline religious, and these groups don't really intermingle much (except for inside family units)
No prizes for guessing which group tends to do the aforementioned.
@yong_zhengxin Mech Interp is really well placed for it too! A conference could pick up a lot of sponsorships and funding from AI safety and adjacent orgs, and obviously the volume of subs and field maturity is there already (its been more than 6 years since the Circuits thread already)
@judejon_@coopercooperco It's mainly because GRRM's worldbuilding is basically taking real-world cultures, stripping out any nuance until they're just pop culture pastiches, and selling that as "realistic worldbuilding"
@verma_apurv5@gneubig Nah, nothing to be surprised about when you consider the demographics of this place these days.
I don't think most of the people who answered Claude Code/Codex have ever, or could right now, write a simple MLP in torch/jax by themselves.
@AetherShinzo@keewa You can't have it both ways. A strong naval force (and the capacity to build and maintain one) itself is value.
The other kingdoms should've wiped out the Ironborn, then exploited that value by taking over the Islands and exporting the local timber and iron for their own use
@Andrew_Akbashev Why keep paying for *anything* at all? AI can take care of clerical work too. If students can learn from AI, and AI can take care of most white-collar work, what's the point of a degree? If AI can do research on its own, why do grants? Funders can just pay for AI credits directly
@vikhyatk@GergelyOrosz If data labelling is valuable work that no one is above, why's so much of it just outsourced to contractors in less developed countries? Even Scale was doing it.
@bokuHaruyaHaru@kingdangerously@camhberg LLMs lack memory, agency and continuity unless explicitly implemented by people using a software-style framework (that is, 'agentic AI'). It apes aversion and preference characteristics from its training and fine-tuning data.
You should probably slow down with the buzzwords.
@bokuHaruyaHaru@kingdangerously@camhberg You could create an LLM inside an excel spreadsheet by hand if you had the wherewithal to program several billion cells.
People create new materials by accident fairly often. They don't claim its conscious just because that material's developed capabilities they didn't expect.
@headinthebox Could pay almost the academic year's rent with 5k, yikes.
Realistically, its 750 + 310 with the $20 ACM student membership, skipping a workshop day + 7*125 (chain hotels are <$250 for doubles).
That drops it down to about 3k. Still awful if wholly out of the student's pocket.
@tootickiie@neptuniite They're actually the same lol. Martin justs uses English words, while Tolkien uses Sindarin, Khuzdul, etc. for those compound descriptive words
And since Tolkien's languages are derived from other historical languages (e.g. Welsh or Finnish), they're still grounded in some way.

@juleslogs Guess you can add Cohere, PRISM, CooperativeAI, and the active servers on the https://t.co/NfQEUHBxSw list.
It's not really "research paths to ML" though. Waaaayy too many of these are very specifically "research paths into LLMs/AI safety", which is honestly a shame.
@raybinr3v@Imn0tDaredevil You mean you're getting 12-20 hours of entertainment for just $70? That's an absolute fucking steal compared to literally any other activity. How much would you rather pay?
Like, if you're on such a tight budget there are 50 million F2P games out there, just play one of them lol
@atomcatt_02 You have an ICML paper, even co-authored! Your profile will be *significantly* stronger next year, so don't take a loan and just reapply.
That loan will be a massive weight on your neck for the next decade. Serious. It'll kill your productivity for the next 5 years at least.
