MAJOR INCIDENT NEAR RAF FAIRFORD

A major incident has been declared near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire after several men were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act.

Residents in Whelford have been evacuated to a nearby leisure centre, while an Army specialist explosive ordnance disposal team examines a number of vehicles.

Armed police have established a cordon around the area and roads have been closed.

Gloucestershire Police say they believe the incident is “contained” although Henry Bolton OBE posted that Fairford has now been placed at FPCON Delta.

The incident is ongoing and developing.
