🧬☢️Radiation therapy for breast cancer may increase risk of contralateral breast cancer in BRCA1/2 carriers.
🧬☢️A study of 3,600 BRCA1/2 carriers found that those who received radiation therapy were more likely to develop contralateral breast cancer than those who did not. The risk was higher for BRCA2 carriers than BRCA1 carriers.
🧬☢️The study's authors say that radiation therapy regimens that minimize the dose to the contralateral breast should be considered for BRCA1/2 carriers.
