@mancunianmedic@HECTORcares@orangedis Who wants to work under such conditions? Unless we add in national targets for retention and sickness levels, many Trusts pay lip service to staff well being. Even in 2019 parts of the NHS don't seem to recognise that staff who feel valued are able to give better patient care.
@mancunianmedic@HECTORcares@orangedis Wholeheartedly agree with point 4. My experience has been that the bullying culture extends toward execs who then pass it on to clinical staff. We are becoming defined by targets rather than actual quality of patient care or how well we look after staff.
@mancunianmedic@HECTORcares@orangedis thank you @mancunianmedic for all your thoughts. Agree with them all! I need to keep people 'onside' so they can hear the message. We need to be listening to each other so we can understand the system issues.
@HECTORcares Next week I am speaking about staff resilience and wellbeing at the NHSi winter planning meeting. I'm looking for people's thoughts about what messages you would like execs from around the country to hear. @mancunianmedic@orangedis
Being Positive is a skill that does not always come naturally. We can choose to set the climate around us. We all know the people who make or break our days. Choose to be the person who makes the day @civilitysaves,@RCollEM
@ClareGerada@gmcuk I had the privilege of talking about just this at #RCEMacp recently. The myths around resilience. I walked away from medicine after 20 years but came back. Is it time for us to start talking honestly about what the agenda is here? @civilitysaves, @RCollEM
This is the third of the resilience myths we discussed at #RCEMacp . Resilience is about far more than us coping on our own. How we behave towards each other can make all the difference. @civilitysaves@RCollEM
@VivekKhashu @NHSLeadership Absolutely! It applies to everyone involved in healthcare.
Its not weak to admit you are overwhelmed. Don't let us mistake compassion for weakness.
@RonnieKernaghan Thank you! Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the positive responses. Our social interactions are even more crucial when we are under pressure at work. Sharing a smile and saying "hello" - the foundations of kindness, trust and respect in our teams.
@karenmaryoneill@RCollEM Thank you for your kind words. It is entirely within our gift to set the climate around us. If we all role model kindness, compassion and positivity together we can create great teams.
This is the second of the myths that we explored at #RCEMacp . We all have days when we need help to make it through. Know your own stresses, be kind to yourself, be kind to those around you. #emotionaltoil, #stressbucket, #civilitysaveslives
Thank you to all at #RCEM for the invitation to talk about resilience and leadership today at #RCEMacp . The energy in the room was fantastic. It was an absolute privilege.
Here is my first myth of healthcare resilience.
@nellshard Thank you! It was great to be a part of the day. The response to my talk has been so much more than I hoped for or expected. Worth the sleepless nights in the lead up!
This is one of our rare retweets- the idea that healthcare staff need to be more resilient has its roots in erroneous assumptions that somehow staff have hidden reserves. We would get far better results if we spent the energy making the workplace a kinder place.
