In a heroic move, Gisele Pelicot fought to make public the videos of her unconscious rapes at the hands of over 50 men and won. She wanted the public “to look rape straight in the eyes.” Shame, she said, must change sides —from the victims to the perpetrators.

Police found more than 20,000 videos and photographs of Gisele drugged and being raped by various men on her husband’s devices in a folder titled “Abuse.”

On Friday, the judge complied with Gisele’s demand and showed the evidence “necessary for the manifestation of the truth.”

12 rape videos and 10 photos were shown over the courtroom’s three flat screens and projected into the overflow room for members of the public while the perpetrators in the videos sat in shame watching their own despicable criminal acts being exposed.

Many disabled people oppose #AssistedSuicide because we know how hard it can be to live at the intersection of pain, ableism & failing systems. I had to argue with social worker’s for an extra 15min to wash my hair each week. We need assistance to live before assistance to die.

We often talk about being coerced into assisted suicide by relatives but the real danger is being coerced by circumstances. From social care to pain relief, “I want the choice to die” will only truly be a free choice when society gives desperate people a genuine alternative.

Not enough adults are understanding that they have to create moments of happiness in their lives. Find things to be excited about. Create plans to look forward to. Decorate the house during holidays. Make a playlist you only listen to on Tuesdays. Keep your favorite snacks stocked in case of a bad day. You have more control over your joy than you think.

People want community, but don’t really know how to be IN community with others. It requires time & energy. Clear communication & accountability. And involves things like conflict resolution, compassion, empathy, & grace. Lack these skills, community becomes even harder to find.
