Remember all the way back to 2021 when certain environment charities were heaping praise on the previous government's new Environment Act, Parliament was told that it was "Welcomed as a significant victory for river health and ... river users”.
4 years later how's that one working out?
As always they got played. The Act sets its goal as "reducing [the] adverse impacts [of sewage dumping] on the environment".
What the eNOGs missed of course is there is no definition of "reducing" in the Act, ie, water companies can make it mean anything they want it to and as for "adverse impacts" yep no definition for that either. It's all totally and utterly meaningless just like the rest of the Act. Ho hum.

Sally is an affectionate and gentle soul who loves spending time with people and adores cuddles. She may be on the maturer side of life, but she still has a spring in her step and greets each morning with a happy, playful bow. She walks beautifully on the lead #rehomehour
Please retweet, warning to cat owners after 'abnormal' number of cats disappear #Newtown#Wales#UK
Pet owners in an area of mid Wales are being urged to take extra care with their animals after an "abnormal" number of cats went missing in recent months.
About 10 cats have disappeared from the Garth Owen area of Newtown, Powys, in the past year, many in the last few months, said Kelly Healy, who represents the area for Powys council.
"It's very suspicious behaviour, and somebody may have been taking them," she said.
Dyfed-Powys Police said it has received reports about missing cats in the Garth Owen area of Newtown, and inquiries were "ongoing to establish if a criminal offence has occurred".
Craig Beckerleg's cat, Ringo, went missing last October and was found several months later by a cat rescue charity in #Shrewsbury, more than 30 miles (48 km) away.
He believed Ringo was taken because "too many cats have gone missing" in the Garth Owen area.
Mr Beckerleg said a number of neighbours had cats disappearing in recent months, including one who was found in #Aberystwyth, #Ceredigion – more than 40 miles (64 km) away and in the opposite direction to Shrewsbury.
He said the "family was overjoyed" when Ringo returned, particularly his young son who was "ecstatic", because he had been so upset at Ringo disappearing.
"[Ringo's] now alright. He's coming and going as his normal self," he told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.
Healy, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Newtown, said there was a "pattern" of cats going missing, saying she knew of 10 people saying theirs had disappeared.
"We had one in April last year, one in October and others in November and December – so they're in close succession," she said.
Ms Healy urged anyone who suspects their cat may have disappeared to get in touch.

BREED/AGE/COLOUR: Jack Russell cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 6 years and white & tan.
TYPE OF HOME: We’re looking for an active home for Sir Didymus, he is high energy and loves to be on the go! Sir Didymus loves his walks and even more playing with his toys, he can be quite snatchy with them so we usually alternate between two. Sir Didymus has been hit & miss around other kennel dogs, and given his love for his toys, we feel a pet free home would be best. Sir Didymus has restarted his vaccinations, is microchipped and will be neutered before going to his new home.
KIDS: 13 years +
DOGS: No
CATS: Unsure
SMALL ANIMALS: Unsure
PREVIOUS HISTORY: We haven’t been aware of any previous history for Sir Didymus, he came into our care as a stray and we weren’t told any information for him.

Lovely Staffordshire Bull Terrier aged 10 months.
Harrison was brought into the home as a stray. He is a very affectionate and friendly boy. He absolutely loves his toys and will often bring one of them with him when he comes to greet you at his kennel door. He is always happy to see you wagging his tail like mad. Harrison’s favourite time of day is off lead in our compound where he can chase around with his toys to his hearts content. He can get quite boisterous and bouncy when he gets over excited and would definitely benefit from on going training and socialisation.
Harrison has interacted well with other dogs whilst in our care, although he was quite unsure at first but soon realised playing with another dog is great fun, so we believe following a successful meet and greet could be rehomed with another dog of similar size and energy levels.
We are unsure how he would react around cats.
As Harrison came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him so would prefer any children/visiting children to be 12+ years.
Applications that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge- Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home.

I cannot even begin to underline to you what a victory this is for @FishLegal_, @pickeringfish and ultimately every river in the country, just immense.
The scandal is that they had to take this case at all and the 16 years the EA have wasted.
I now look forward to discussing with @EnvAgencySE the exact detail of the plans they are now going to put in place to save the Upper Lea from extinction.
