6,017 DAYS LATER… PAKISTAN WIN A HOCKEY WORLD CUP MATCH!

The wait is finally over! Pakistan have defeated Japan in the classification round to register their first FIH Hockey World Cup win in 16 years.

Pakistan’s last World Cup victory came 6,017 days ago. That’s more than 16 years between two World Cup wins.

Not a tournament triumph but after waiting this long for a single World Cup win, this one feels special.

🇵🇰🇸🇦🇹🇷 Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have signed a landmark Joint Defence Agreement” today, formally called the “Mecca Agreement”.

The historic pact establishes collective defence framework under which attack against any one will be considered an attack against all three countries.

Mecca Agreement marks a major step toward military alliance between Muslim world’s three most influential powers.

It brings Pakistan’s military power and strategic nuclear deterrence, Türkiye’s advanced defence industry and Saudi Arabia’s economic and financial power under a common security framework.

Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence.

At the gracious invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, paid a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 24 Safar 1448H, corresponding to August 7, 2026.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister received H.E. the President of Türkiye, and H.E. the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah, where the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence was held, during which the distinguished relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan were reviewed, along with a number of issues of mutual interest.

Guided by the longstanding historical ties among the three States, based on the enduring bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity that unite them, and building upon their shared strategic interests and longstanding defence cooperation, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, and H.E. Mr. Muhammed Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, reflecting the three States’ shared commitment to further strengthening their collective security and to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond, in pursuit of a secure and prosperous future.

The Agreement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three States shall be regarded as an attack against them all. It further provides for the enhancement of all aspects of defence cooperation among the three States.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a very important meeting with the Iranian delegation at the Islamabad Talks today. The Iranian side was led by the Speaker Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi attended the meeting from Pakistani side.

There is a heated exchange ongoing between Pakistani and Israeli officials over the statement of Pakistan's defence minister. It reminds me of an aviation fact: Pakistan's air force (pilots) have a 4-0 record in air-air combat against the Israeli air force (3 during 1967 war and 1 during the 1973 war).

Here is the picture of the flight suit of an Israeli Air Force pilot, Captain M. Lutz, whose Mirage III was shot down on April 26, 1974, over the Golan Heights by Pakistani pilot Sattar Alvi. It is displayed as a war trophy at the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Museum in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Air Force fighter jets were seen escorting Iranian delegation aircraft over Pakistani airspace as they arrived for the #IslamabadTalks with the United States in Islamabad, Pakistan.
