Recent readings reminded me of other notable literature published lately about the function and meaning of mysterious historical buildings. One that comes to mind is the outstanding work by Dr. G. Fallacara and Dr. U. Occhinegro of @PolibaOfficial on Castel del Monte, in Apulia

Built in the 1240s by the Emperor Frederick II Hohenstaufen, the builiding was believed to be alternatively a hunting lodge, a citadel, or a structure somewhat related to astronomy. It turns out that the real function of the castle might be much more esoteric and intriguing.
