Having missed the Bonaparte's gull when it first visited Myerscough, I was really pleased to see it this afternoon. Showed beautifully in the spring sunshine.
@SteveOnHilbre@deeestuary Fascinating, isn't it? In Ormskirk, I've recorded BHGs that breed in Oslo, Helsinki, and Ostashkov in Russia. Even further away than your bird. They mix in the park with birds that breed locally. Without the rings, we'd never know
Just finished looking through my pictures from last month's trips with @Scillypelagics Pristine Sabine's gull probably the highlight, but pleased with a classic image of a Wilson's petrel.
@PhilWoollen@01000011S@JulianThomas19 Helen and I were with you when it popped up. Brilliant moment, we talk about often. We stayed up for a few days birding and also went to Bressay Uphellya
Had a walk along the Wandle Trail, south London. Amazed to see so many firecrests. Singing and displaying in the sunshine right by the path. Absolutely stunning little birds.
Thank you! This afternoon we reached 40,000 signatures on our petition to ban driven grouse shooting.

The ring-necked duck in St Helens showed well today. Shame it wasn't better light to be able to see the purple sheen on its neck from which it gets its name. You can just see it here. Just.
Came across this beautiful, long-eared owl. Waited a while, hoping he'd fully open his golden eyes, but he didn't, so we left him in peace to doze in the winter sunshine.
