What Zozo said! 👇🏾 It’s been a privilege to gather with these wonderful colleagues and, for me as a “professional student” of critical approaches to law and society, bumping into Prof. Gathii was a real moment at #LSA2023!
Surrounded by great scholars here! Just to point out one: For those students I taught critical approaches to international law, especially TWAIL and AAIL, you’ll quickly recognise the name Prof James Gathii (blue shirt).Day made! #LSASanJuan2023@law_soc@UPLawFaculty
@JohanLorenzen@LRCSouthAfrica@Richard_Spoor@LarcUCT@Mampatsana@wilmienwicomb We give thanks to rural communities who attended/tried to attend public hearings but instead faced obstacles. TKLA has such significant impact on our lives & land rights so meaningful public participation is vital. Thanks to our legal & research allies who listened to our cries
Constitutional Court found in favour of applicants @ruraldemocracy@LAMOSAONLINE@HandsOffAmadiba & Victor Modimakwane who challenged the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act on the basis Parliament failed to ensure adequate public participation. See below our full statement
In a unanimous decision, the Constitutional Court has found that Parliament failed to comply with its constitutional obligation to facilitate public involvement before passing the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act 3 of 2019. The Act is therefore declared invalid.
🎤 Join us for a musical seminar with Maskhandi legend Phuzekhemisi on the eve of the Constitutional Court hearing on the challenge to the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act! Unpack the case, explore the issues and engage in lively discussions with experts. Don't miss out!🎵

Check it out. It’s here: The Oxford Handbook of Law and Anthropology! The conference for this in Berlin was the last time I saw Sally Engle Merry (#RIP) in person. Seeing her name in here made me both sad and grateful for all her contributions. @OUPAcademic@OUPLaw @Polar_Journal
One of the coolest things about the @ssrcmellonmays is the connections it makes. I was really glad to hear John Jackson speak at a conference several years ago and am honoured to get to collaborate with him now through the PoLAR Ed Board!
