A lot of jokes from King Charles tonight.
“You recently commented, Mr. President, that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Dare I say that if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French”
Camera switches to EPA administrator Lee Zeldin following this line from King Charles: We ignore at our peril the fact that these natural systems in other words, nature's own economy, provide the foundation for our prosperity and our national security.
Standing ovation for this line from King Charles: The U.S. Supreme court historical society has calculated that Magna Carta is cited in at least 160 supreme court cases since 1789, not least as the foundation of the principle that executive power is subject to checks and balances.
New: Covid-19 vaccines roughly halved the chances a US adult would need to visit the ER or be hospitalized with their infections last fall and winter, according to two sources familiar with the findings of a new study. But you won’t hear about it from the agency that led the research: the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The current head of the CDC, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who’s also director of the US National Institutes of Health, blocked the publication of those findings in the CDC’s flagship journal, the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, according to the sources.

Ancient Persian, as attested by the monumental inscriptions of Cyrus and Darius, is a highly inflected language, like Greek, Latin, or its close cousin Sanskrit. Yet after 200 years as the language of the Persian empire, it lost its elaborate grammar, including gender, dual number and case endings. In the inscription language, a noun could take 10-15 different endings (English has two-- s and 's). A verb could use up to five roots, depending on the tense (English-- go vs went). By the time of Alexander the Great, Persian already looked (and sounded) a lot like it does today, 2,500 years later. Words became shorter and simpler: King, "xšāyaθiya," became "shâh", as in modern Persian, and the word for happiness, "šiyati" became "shât", modern "shâd". How and why did this happen? I am reading Kevin T. Van Bladel's "Ancient Persian, a linguistic history", to find out.
We live in a country where the two most dynamic, charismatic, eloquent politicians of this century have the first names Barack and Zohran. This is what bothers the white supremacists so much.
Frank Lampard a fantastic example to young managers. Could easily have took the easy route of punditry after leaving Everton, instead went away, honed his skills and has guided Coventry back to the Premier League. An absolute icon as player and as manager.
It should be a much bigger story that JD Vance flew to Hungary, stood on a campaign stage, and told voters to return a head of government widely documented for human rights abuses and democratic backsliding.
Then, after his candidate lost, Vance said what had happened during the Hungarian campaign was “one of the worst examples of foreign election interference that I’ve ever seen or ever even read about.”
Was he describing himself?
The Hungarian people rejected it all. Democracy held, despite America’s intervention, not because of American leadership.
The United States has long argued that elections should be free from outside influence.
That standard should apply to everyone, including us.

The leaders of these countries have released a joint statement on the situation in Iran which includes a call to end the war.
France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Romania, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Slovakia, Greece, Spain, Norway, Finland, Japan, along with the European Union.
“We welcome the two-week ceasefire concluded between the United States and Iran today.
We thank Pakistan and all partners involved for facilitating this important agreement.
The goal must now be to negotiate a swift and lasting end to the war within the coming days. This can only be achieved through diplomatic means.
We strongly encourage quick progress towards a substantive negotiated settlement.
This will be crucial to protect the civilian population of Iran and ensure security in the region. It can avert a severe global energy crisis.
We support these diplomatic efforts. To this end, we are in close contact with the United States and other partners.
We call upon all sides to implement the ceasefire, including in Lebanon.
Our Governments will contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Insisting on calling Persian "Farsi" in English does a huge disservice to global interest in and knowledge of Persian literature. It is confusing and unnecessary. Look in the official translations of the Iranian constitution. The Language Academy in Iran. Etc. PERSIAN.
25th amendment. Impeachment. I will support any avenue to remove Donald Trump from office. We cannot leave this man in charge of America’s nuclear weapons as he threatens to end an entire civilization. And Congress must not fund this reckless administration.
@HillaryClinton warned us:
“This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes – because it’s not hard to imagine Donald Trump leading us into a war just because somebody got under his very thin skin.”
This is a threat of genocide and merits removal from office. The President’s mental faculties are collapsing and cannot be trusted.
To every individual in the President’s chain of command: You have a duty to refuse illegal orders. That includes carrying out this threat.
