This is totally unacceptable! Let our Mau forest breathe please! Should we seat down and see all this happening and act up like we are replanting all soon, a cedar itself take a century+ to mature, indigenous tree cut can never be recovered @ACMI_Africa@Environment_Ke@save_mau
The session was facilitated by @WWF_Kenya and focused on strengthening community awareness, participation, and rights in development and conservation initiatives.
I had the opportunity to attend a Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) engagement session at Shulmai Community Conservancy, bringing together members of the Indigenous Yaaku Community community in Dol Dol.
With the successful launch behind us, we now turn our focus to the work ahead. Together, we are committed to restoring the beauty and ecological importance of the Mau Forest through tree planting, conservation, and community action.

Getting ready towards big day.
Community environmental leaders remain at heart of this journey, having played a vital role in preserving and strengthening the way Ogiek community members have carried out conservation and restoration work over the years.

Hundreds of Ogiek community members are actively managing indigenous tree nurseries, applying valuable indigenous knowledge to nurture specific tree species and improve survival rates, while also creating important economic opportunities for local families.
Ahead of official launch of our restoration activities on 15th June 2025 in the East Mau region by @save_mau, I visited some of the tree nurseries and restoration sites that will be supported and adopted during the event.

The launch will bring together community members, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen ongoing efforts aimed at restoring the Mau Forest ecosystem through community-led action.
At the ground level, @save_mau is restoring degraded forest areas through indigenous tree growing, school tree planting, and climate awareness programs. Conservation succeeds when communities are empowered to lead and Indigenous voices are included in decision-making. π³
I had the opportunity to represent @save_mau in discussion on the role of Indigenous Peoples in conservation. Indigenous communities have protected forests, rivers, biodiversity, & key water catchments like Mau for generations through traditional knowledge and community action.
On 15th June, Save Mau Forest Initiative, together with community members & partners, will officially launch a restoration project targeting some of the most degraded sections of the Mau Forest ecosystem and river catchment areas.

Wrapped up an intense week at HRD Digital Security Management coaching in Kajiado. Reignited skills, sharpened awareness, and ready for a demanding year ahead, especially with rising risks to human rights during the political season. Grateful for the growth and renewed purpose.
The rains are finally back. π§οΈπ±π
It is time for us to return to our land and plant trees, especially integrating them among the crops we are growing. Through this agroforestry approach, we can restore the Mau Forest to its former glory.
