Mark Carney names France, Canada, China and the United States as the four countries at the forefront of AI and says Canada 🇨🇦 and France 🇫🇷 must join forces to shape its future.

We possess world-class researchers and universities, yet much of the technology and intellectual property created here is developed or owned elsewhere.

While Canada and Europe build alliances around AI, defence, energy, space and critical minerals, Brexit Britain stands outside the room congratulating itself on being a “global leader”.

Talent without capital, scale or strategic alliances does not translate into power.

I’m taking action to stop Reform’s corruption of our politics. I’ve written to Angela Rayner calling for a cap on donations from any individual to be included in the Representation of the Bill as it goes through the House of Lords.

Reform is a billionaire-backed project to dismantle the public realm, shred regulatory protections and hand what remains of state power to capital.

The recent multimillion pound donations they received must be seen as a chilling threat to our democracy. When the super-rich are permitted to influence political parties like this, it highlights a fundamental weak spot in our constitutional protections. It’s clear we need a stronger firewall around our democracy.

I know some are worried that donation caps could inadvertently hit trade unions as well. But targeting individual donors means that union donations – made up of thousands of working people who can voluntarily decide whether their dues will contribute to political funds – would not be included.

The real working class – individual union members – do not have millions of pounds they can so easily give away, unlike Reform’s billionaire backers.

😮Well, blow me down with a feather I actually agree with Daniel Hannan about why an early general election now looks increasingly likely.

He thinks @AndyBurnham may call an early election to obtain a mandate to escape Labour’s Brexit red lines, move closer to Europe and introduce proportional representation.

Even more astonishingly, he appears to recognise that the divided right cannot win it.

But then he retreats into the Brexiter myth that Europe is moving uniformly towards the far right and gives us a preview of the campaign Britain’s right-wing parties intend to run.

Except Europe isn’t moving uniformly right.

Sweden has just removed a government dependent on the far right. Hungary has ended 16 years of Orbán. Poland has not fallen to the far right, France remains undecided, and even Germany’s AfD remains isolated from government.

Germany is a serious warning—not a description of an entire continent.

The really revealing part is that Brexiteers are already preparing for another Brexit election and appear to know they cannot win it.

@StuartBudd1 Good point. I think Scottish and Welsh independence is inevitable. But Independence brings immediate deficit hurdles, currency fights, and hard borders with England.

Palantir just hired a Labour peer to fight the campaign against its NHS contract. You can push back against this moral bankruptcy. Three letters, one click, on our action hub.

Tom Watson has been on Palantir's payroll since November 2024. He kept voting in the House of Lords for sixteen months while the company paid him, 240 votes in all.

Thirty of those votes were on the Crime and Policing Bill, cast while Palantir was chasing a £50 million Met Police contract. Five were on the data bill that governs how the NHS shares patient records.

On 18 September Palantir made him senior vice president. His register of interests now reads one line: exempt from registration. He keeps the title, the peerage and the Labour whip, and the Lords say no rule was broken.

His job is to stop you fighting back against Palantir's handling of your data. Palantir's £330 million NHS contract has a break clause in February, two Commons committees say cancel it, and Watson says his role is to correct "false information".

He is one of four peers who have advised Palantir. The company has hired 32 senior officials out of the MoD, the NHS and Whitehall, then won a £240 million contract with no competition.

His appointment is evidence that the thousands of emails sent to NHS trusts, councillors and MPs are amounting to real pressure.
