Mr. Cohen but probably not to you | MSU ‘19 | 914

[Kevin Durant @KDTrey5]

I remember asking assistant coach Mo Cheeks, what’s harder to do? Workout after practice or before?? I only asked cuz by time I would get to the gym, Russ was already done in the morning and I usually got mine in after practice. Mo like, “coming in before practice is probably harder”…since then, it’s been my routine….a lot of people looked at the emotions on the court and thought Russ was loud, nah to me, he was quiet and methodical. He lead by example and once the lights were bright, he let everything out and experienced pure freedom. It was inspiring as his teammate and everywhere I went, I seen it inspire people from all walks of life, crazy thing is, he didn’t say much, he just showed up. For 18 years. This basketball life is sacred to us as professionals, what we put into that court means everything. Some of us wish we could go back and do things with a little more intent and some can just wipe their hands and be satisfied with the time spent. Who u gonna be? We know what zero was on…keep inspiring in the next phase of life champ. I don’t care what happens, can’t erase what it was…The first YNs, finals run in our early 20s, all star games, seeing each other get injured and bounce back, the bus rides, plane rides, card games, jokes and arguments, the whole thing, memorable!! …to the whole Westbrook family, Nina, the kids, mama Westbrook, big Russ, Ray, Donnell, everybody from luezinger high and ucla and many more that I’m forgettin, much love and Congratulations on a iconic career.

Given all the AI-generated slop, crass confessions and woman-hating contained within, one might be excused for writing off the so-called “MSU burnerverse.”

But dismissing the network of largely student-run, anonymous Spartan fan accounts on X, @OwenMcCarthyJRN reports, risks missing out on all it can reveal.

this should be seen as an absolute tragedy

weed makes you retarded, and worst of all, it gives you the illusion of being fine

it causes an average 8 IQ points drop in habitual smokers, shrinks the hippocampus (your memory center), reduces sperm count, motility, and morphology, and reduces testosterone production

and it takes 1-3 months of complete abstinence just to recover basic attention and memory. most people cant even stop for a week

for heavy users who started before 18 and smoked for a decade or more, some cognitive effects are permanent.
crazy that's even legal

I was walking out of a Texas game in 2022, and I caught Cameron Dicker riding his bike up to the stadium with a ball and a kickstand in-hand.

He had already been cut twice and would eventually get signed and cut one more time before landing with the Chargers. He was hoping to get some kicks up at DKR since the wind gusts were higher than usual that night.

He had to wait for the stadium to clear out but he got a few kicks up that night because he knew he’d need those reps.

Three years later, he’s the most accurate kicker in NFL history.

Great dude who is deserving of every accolade that comes his way.

Another one of my unpopular takes... I hear 'lack of funding' coming up more and more when ppl discuss the reasons for rising rudeness, entitlement and disrespect in schools. Money won't solve this issue. Personal responsibility and accountability aren't things you can buy.

Realy good teaching builds really good relationships. Yes, it can be that simple. Parents eve: ‘X always talks about your lessons, she loves them’. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking relationship building has to involve being less of a teacher and more of a friend.

Contrary to what teachers are told, the reason Direct Instruction is effective is precisely because it doesn’t utilize rote learning. You know what system does, though? Inquiry methods where students unthinkingly copy from group members and the internet!

Nick Saban was asked a question after practice once.

His response was 70 seconds of gold on what it takes to be successful in life.

Here’s Saban on the Illusion of Choice:

“These guys, they all think they have this illusion of choice. Like I can do whatever I want to do.

“You have a younger generation now that doesn’t always get told no. They don’t get told this is exactly how you need to do it. So they have this illusion that they have all these choices.

“But the fact of the matter is, if you want to be good you don’t really have a lot of choices. It takes what it takes. You have to do what you have to do to be successful.

“You have to make the choices and decisions to have the discipline and the focus to the process of what you need to do to accomplish your goals.

“All these guys that think they have a lot of choices are sadly mistaken. As we all have done with our own children, they learn these lessons of life as they get older.

“Sometimes the best way to learn is from the mistakes you make, even though we all hate to see them have to make them, and we don’t condone it when they do.”

–

I’ve studied Saban for 12+ years, and the Illusion of Choice is one of the most powerful concepts I’ve come across.

Some key takeaways:

1. Excellence has a price. We can complain about that, but it’s a fact of life.

2. Most people don’t want to pay that price. They just haven’t admitted it to themselves.

3. Saying you want to be excellent is easy. Becoming excellent is hard.

4. There may not be one way to become great, but there are very few. And they all have discipline and consistency in common.

5. Every action we take is a choice. We’re choosing to make progress, or we’re not.

6. The formula for becoming successful: Your Daily Choices x Time. It’s simple, but we make it complicated.

7. Sometimes we learn more by making the wrong choices. Reflect on them, pull out the lessons and move on.

8. You have to choose what you do every day. Don’t follow your feelings. Choose to do what will make you better.

9. There are no long-term hacks. It takes what it takes.
