True, when we were stuck in traffic on the way back to NYC, Adeo asked me what I was going to do after PayPal/X and I said I always wanted to do something to advance space, but didn’t think there was anything private individuals could do.
The origin of SpaceX was doing a philanthropic mission to get the public excited about life on Mars, so that NASA’s budget could be increased to achieve that goal. There was no commercial ambition at the time.
The $50M was from the proceeds of the sale of PayPal to eBay.
After learning more about the limiting factors for humanity in space, it became obvious that the issue was a lack of advancement in rocket technology, in particular the failure to develop a fully reusable rocket, without which expanding consciousness beyond Earth is impossible.
Canadian Coast to Coast with Tesla FSD is done!
Myself, @DavidMoss and @scotsrule08 drove over 6,051km (3,760 miles) across Canada, through the Rockies, prairies, Canadian Shield, etc - all while using FSD.
Canada threw just about everything it had at us along the way… construction, animals on the road, poor weather, bad drivers, etc - and we still managed to pull it off.
This is a major milestone in autonomy and will hopefully help prove to people where we actually are today with regard to self-driving cars.
What a fun 5 days it’s been - I can’t believe how many people have shown up to support us along the way! The Tesla community is incredible.
I wait patiently for FSD here in the UK.
I used it multiple times last year in Austin. I think people who know me are sick of me banging on about how good the cars are and FSD.
I notice more and more 3 or Ys appearing in the works car park. Even had someone come upto me on the quiet and say that he'd bought a new Tesla and that he'd heard I was the person he should speak to about it, which made me chuckle.
Like you say " it'll change your life ".
I strongly agree with you.
What a time to be alive with such a bright futyre ahead.
