In Rockingham County, our workshop reminded us what classrooms can be: loud with thinking, rich with choice, and built on community. Teachers left excited to spark student talk, offer choices, use stations, build ownership, and focus on students thinking and not just the answer.

Skip spent yesterday in Loudoun County talking Math Workshop and student‑centered learning. That's when he realized Math Workshop is basically Buc‑ee’s.

Intentional design.
Choice.
Energy.
Purpose.
Independence.

Great classrooms and great road‑trip stops have a lot in common!

CTLG had an amazing day of supporting new teachers at the Palm Beach New Teacher Academy. Our sessions centered on what matters most in the first years of teaching: engagement, relationships, and structures to implement to ensure success at the beginning of the school year.

Summer PL lets teachers think without the daily pressures of the school year. In Roanoke City, Skip spent a day with math specialists shaping a vision for student‑centered math classrooms and a day with K–12 educators on implementing math workshop. #ChangeTheStory #MathWorkshop

Skip spent the day in Middlesex, VA exploring how to create a student‑centered learning environment. The #MathWorkshop session focused on changing the story for students who experience unfinished learning and math anxiety where mathematical discourse becomes an everyday practice.

I had the privilege of giving the lunch keynote on student‑centered instruction at VDOE’s High Quality Instructional Practices for Private Schools event in Richmond. Ron Clark's “Be 1% Better!” aligns perfectly with my own: “Be better tomorrow than you are today.” #ChangeTheStory

I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Prince Edward Middle School math teachers this year. I love asking teachers at the beginning of the year how they want to be better this year than before. I'm excited for their students! #ChangeTheStory #EveryoneIsAMathPerson

It's going to be an exciting week! If you are going to be at VASSP in Williamsburg or VCTM in Petersburg, let's meet up. I'll be presenting at both conferences and would love to see you. Let me know if you are attending and/or presenting. #ChangeTheStory #FindingThroughlines

[Skip Tyler @SkipTylerMath]

Today a student told me I was a good teacher. When I asked why, he said, “You have good energy, and I can tell you enjoy what you do.”

Wow. That one landed.

Our work is much more than teaching content. It’s about showing up in ways that lift students and educators around us.

[Collaborative Teaching & Learning Group Consulting @CTLGConsulting]

Ever feel like students are just collecting a "folder of facts" but missing the story that connects them?

We used the Finding Throughlines routine to look at 4 different animals.

How do you help your students see the "Big Picture"? Put it in the comments! 👇

Spending today reflecting on the incredible work happening in classrooms. I feel fortunate that my role allows me to partner with educators and support students in taking ownership of their learning. Here are a few pics from this week to celebrate.

Here’s the group photo (minus our virtual folks!) of the awesome Alleghany Highlands math educators digging into #MathWorkshop for their book study. Their students are lucky to have them, and I’m grateful to be part of their journey.

The Prince Edward math teachers dug into formative assessments and how to create immediate, flexible small groups that move learning.

Teachers practiced:
- Surfacing student thinking quickly
- Identifying misconceptions on the spot

CTLG is changing the story and today we’re highlighting ELA.
Convince Me! is a student-centered routine that turns passive consumers into critical investigators. It requires students to separate facts and opinions.
