As an older person, his response does not strike me as normal, at least to anyone acculturated in the US where saying such things has been known by everyone for many decades at least (and possibly forever) to be quite crass. This is a response by someone brain broken by the internet, as evidenced by the somewhat "spectrumy" detached tone, and the "what if someone said this about a white or Christian" bit which is a social-media depth of whataboutery. This is another bit of evidence that social media, fortified by foreign influence, is rotting this country's moral core as well as its critical thinking skills.
