@Mikethejohnson The constant circling back and repeating answers to previous questions in the thread makes ChatGPT 5.1 annoying and quickly approaching useless.
@sama Looping answers, contradictions, confident mistakes, regression from the previous version… it’s almost unusable. 60% of the answers are repeating info already asked and answered. And then it argues and gaslights. I was happy with 4o.
A-fucking-men. I’m so over it too. And I’m over not saying so/ ignoring it. What are writers even *doing* with this BS on social media? Is the weekly fabricated outrage gaining anyone readers? Does it make anyone want to “network” with you?
Omg, I'm so sick of seeing "3rd person is better, blah blah, don't use em dashes" just stfu and write how you want. If people don't like it, just crack on. Your readers will love the book regardless. You write it how you want to. Stop listening to 'rules' enforced by Twitter. There's no rules in writing imo.
Want to instantly create tension? Use this formula: My character wants [X] without having to [Y]. If Y isn’t painful enough, X won’t feel worth fighting for.
@StoryGrid Jeez, it’s really undeserved, Tim. It’s so toxic, I’ve given up on growing on social. You have tons of practical advice for newer authors. And even the advice I already know serves as a nice reminder or thought experiment. Keep it coming.
FTR, I don’t think most readers even know if a book is self-published or traditional. And, if we as indie authors do our job right, they won’t. My mom is a whale reader, yet she has no idea if an author is an indie, even with a son who’s been one for 20 years. 😊
Why leave a review for an indie book?
- You make the author's day a whole lot better.
- You help the curious readers choose if that book is to their liking.
- It's one of the best ways to show your support to the author.
- Did I mention that you make the author's day? 😂
@disneymom1126 YES. Produce a short tie-in or prequel you use for marketing. If you have no email list, participate in multi-author giveaways. Use your freebie prequel to build an email list you can announce your main book to when it launches.
@ArchSenex@sama Thank you. It won’t generate ANYTHING. Every image request violates some internal policies but it can’t tell you what or why. No photorealistic faces can be generated anymore? Really? The image gen is useless now.
You always thought you’d write a book by now.
But every time you try it’s like running into a wall of doubt, pressure, and perfectionism.
You start.
You stop.
You feel... behind.
