Sidney Crosby has already given Pittsburgh a career worthy of a statue.

He has spent his entire NHL career with the Penguins since debuting in 2005, making him the longest-tenured active athlete in Pittsburgh’s major professional sports scene. By March 25, 2027, Crosby will also have served as Penguins captain for more than half of his entire life.

The résumé behind that longevity is almost impossible to match:

3 Stanley Cups
2 Conn Smythe Trophies
2 Hart Trophies
2 Art Ross Trophies
2 Olympic gold medals
More points than any player in Penguins history

Crosby became captain at 19 and led Pittsburgh to the Stanley Cup two years later, becoming the youngest captain ever to lift it. He then added consecutive championships in 2016 and 2017, winning playoff MVP both times.

He did not simply play in Pittsburgh for two decades. He became the standard against which every future Penguin will be measured.

Mario Lemieux saved the franchise. Crosby carried it into another championship era and remained loyal through every stage that followed.

The question is no longer whether Pittsburgh should build Sidney Crosby a statue. It is which celebration they should immortalize.
