@BillyBlacklight @zeta_globin You ever try to sedate a pig? Pig surgery is often a multi-person job and that’s not to mention the ways we have to protect ourselves from diseases pigs catch/carry. Not to mention housing them

They’re closer to us and would be great models otherwise. But they’re so smart too :(

@CleverFool5 @zeta_globin Monkeys are EXPENSIVE and difficult to work with (broadly/generally speaking). The behavior, the diseases they can catch and/or carry, the cost factor…all impractical for the majority of academic research labs. There are always exceptions though, like govt funded institutions

@Zhaoj6317 @zeta_globin Not really. The majority of “higher animals” are too expensive to keep in the volume/conditions for effective research. “Lower animals” tend to be non-mammals.

Labs that specialize in certain areas still use them, but mice are the gold standard for everyone else

I feel like when I say I'm anti-death penalty, ppl assume I don't think anyone deserves to die. This is false. There are absolutely ppl who deserve death. I simply don't think any government can be trusted with the right to kill.
