However he managed to utter the words “I want to claim asylum” and within 48 hours he was transferred to a 4 star hotel where he resided for 14 months and is now in a Serco funded house. Completely free of charge and paid for by me and you of course.

An Algerian man who stabbed an assault victim in the back with a 12-inch knife, in a “vicious and cowardly” attack that left him close to death, has been jailed for six and a half years.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that defendant Adel Attal (32), who has 21 previous convictions including one for assaulting a garda, intends to return to Algeria after completing his sentence.
