If you were like me, and you were also taught that pregnancy was the end of the world, then just like me, one day you became a mother and with that you discovered that no lie could ever be further from the truth.

Children do not come into our lives to take our lives from us.

And we did not arrive at this culture that resents children by sheer accident. We are here now because for generations we have taught people to fear everything children require of us, and so now we fear children themselves.

And there is something so short sighted about all of this, children are only children for a short amount of time. The annoying child on the airplane one day might turn out to be your doctor when you are old, fragile, and extremely annoying and inconvenient. I doubt you’d want the same treatment you now give. All children eventually become adults. And we all still need doctors, nurses, teachers, trash men, priests, caregivers… Society needs to make room for children not just as a favor to them, but especially because we need to understand that without children there is no future, there is no society, there is nothing left to continue.

Children are the future, and if you cannot stand them just because they are children, then perhaps it is you who has failed to grow up.
