I had a go at pulling together Division 1 2-point output, total scoring and efficiency
just to see how it lines up with the league table.
There’s something in it. Not perfectly aligned, but not random either.
Different teams seem to be getting to similar outcomes in very different ways.
This is rough work for now I’ll turn it into a couple of graphics and see does it hold.
Happy to be corrected on any of it.

If your athletes aren’t sleeping enough, they’re paying a metabolic tax.
1 week of 4–6 hrs sleep: • Glucose tolerance ↓ 30–40% • Insulin response ↓ ~30% • Muscle protein synthesis ↓ ~19%
Now it hits performance—
Reduced brain glucose metabolism → weaker neural drive. No fast signal → no fast-twitch recruitment → ↓ RFD & explosiveness.
You can still produce force… just not quickly.
And that’s what limits performance.
The technocratic approach to sports performance almost always fails.
Wearables, GPS & AI dashboards promise precision but strip the unmeasurables: intent, clutch timing, chemistry & heart.
They turn craftsmen into data clerks & athletes into numbers.
Real edges come from craft & intuition.
Tech must serve the artisan never replace him.
Many coaches have been talking about how fast speed becomes detrained after a short duration (3-7 days) of neglect. I have stated this as well! BUT, I have been DIGGING through the literature and my own records and cannot find the evidence of this...
This might help us tho...
NO TWO SHOT ARE EXACTLY THE SAME.
Even the best shooter of all time, in the most controlled game environment, doesn't repeat the exact same shot each time.
Yes, each shot is similar, but they are all unique as well.
The ability to ADAPT is the true skill of shooting.

Is it time for Irish Sport to treat coaching as a proper profession ? A National Coaching licence for elite coaches?
Despite demanding peak performance from athletes, Irish sport still tolerates underqualified coaches on the sidelines.
