@thequeenofrust The true, haunting burden of conflict is carried by those who survive it—humbled by a gut-wrenching truth that no romantic history book can ever capture, at least not like these notes did.
@CoryRAanalytics Fair point on the Power 4 sample size — that’s the main hesitation.
I think they’ll be some projection off the traits versus waiting for more high-level snaps + more football to be played = a better sample.
Two standouts beyond the physical tools—1. patient, high-level mental processing and 2. arm arrogance—his whip-like release on difficult off platform throws—including those 35+ yards into tight coverage from the opposite hash is for me next level.
I do love Mensah tho—extremely precise, high-efficiency, and he doesn’t hunt the big, difficult throws — he just consistently puts the ball where it needs to be.
When you’re doing your change of direction (COD) training—
Remember…
In a real game, you will never see a plastic cone trying to tackle a player. Your eyes are locked on a defender’s hips, their torso, and their angle of approach.
Players don’t react to cones—they react to other players.
Introduce the Human Variable— the chaos they have to solve.
We believe in a Constraints Led Approach (CLA), where the environment (time/space) are variables that are manipulated using a human element and not just doing cone drills.
It’s more realistic of the problem solving athletes will face game time.
Mirror Drill
Cat & Mouse Drill
Small Sided Games
We’ll use cones to build/reinforce biomechanics/ isolate footwork/practice eccentric deceleration prior to transitioning into COD.
