DEAR JOHN,@_ClimateCraze
Your strategy is simple: demand data, get handed world-class databases by @fionaharvey, ignore the text, paste a chart showing the Ice Age, and declare victory.👇🧵[1/9]
@MatthewWielicki@volcaholic1 Did you read @volcaholic1's words "Yesterday's record-breaking deluge"?
If it broke a record, Matthew, it is by definition unprecedented.
Breaking a 41-year local record means it bypassed decades of baseline atmospheric behaviour in a single afternoon.
You seem so incredibly eager to win an internet argument that you are presenting data for 2025 and 2026 as complete bars when they are labelled on your own chart as "latest year provisional."
Defending your scientific integrity by showing a data bar for 2026 that stops at barely 100 events, simply because the year hasn't finished happening yet, is pure chronological confusion.
You smugly say "Here are the global numbers," but you still refuse to unpack the stacked bars. You are actively hiding the individual trendlines for floods and wildfires underneath a giant, chaotic tower of storm data. If you are going to tell someone to look at the numbers, you might want to make sure your chart doesn't look like a colourful game of Tetris that you are actively losing.
Having a wonderful day, btw.
You?
The actual study explicitly investigates how localised wildlife nutrients act as an additional "biological darkening effect" that refines existing climate models. Aggregating it with a a crappy NY Post headline to imply penguins are doing the heavy lifting of industrial-scale warming is pretty feeble.
This year's "cow farts", presumably.
Tee-hee, @ClimateDepot 🙄
Posting an annual data graph that plummets off a cliff for 2026 while the year isn’t even finished yet is a curious scientific breakthrough.
By grabbing an aid-logistics database (EM-DAT) that only tracks disasters severe enough to trigger international insurance or emergency declarations, and then burying the flood data inside a stacked bar chart where the green blocks clearly maintain a higher average baseline in the 2020s than the early 2000s, you somehow built a visual that actively contradicts your own caption!
The only thing provisional about this data is the logic you used to read it.
@climacritic When prominent scientists "never give you an answer," it’s not because they are stumped, Ian.
It’s because they don’t want to spend their afternoon debating 19th-century thermodynamics with someone who behaves like an internet troll asking for "proof" that the Earth is round.
@RocDocClayton@MatthewWielicki No, historical TRENDS in weather are used as the basis for describing and predicting global climate change.
Previous generations did not have access to our advanced measurement technology.
@harryla74090092@JamesMelville@g__j Silly ad hominem tactics noted. Account's only been active for about a month, btw.
But what else can you hide behind when you have no argument?
"Punished" for what, exactly?
Six separate independent inquiries, including those by the UK Parliamentary Science & Tech Committee, the Uni of East Anglia’s Independent Climate Change Email Review and Penn State Uni, examined these emails and concluded there was no evidence of scientific fraud, data manipulation, or systematic interference with peer review.
Oh NO! A huge piece of industrial machinery operating outdoors in harsh weather conditions for over a decade before needing a major overhaul? How dare they not build it to last thousands of years like the Egyptian Pyramids!
Building a brand-new energy project from scratch means years of environmental reviews, zoning battles, supply chain delays and NIMBY lawsuits. Upgrading an existing site with established grid access and community agreements is often the ONLY financially viable path. But sure, it’s a "scam" because basic project management is too complex for you people to understand.😂
@harryla74090092@JamesMelville Yeah. First I'd query him on the claim that "a 1,000 MW wind farm requires 89,600 acres of land."
What actually occupies that 89,600 acres, do you think?
Exactly, Harry. @g__j is calling the outdated National Grid infrastructure an absolute farce. He’s furious that old-fashioned regulations and bottlenecks mean wind farms are forced to shut down when it's too windy, rather than just letting companies like Octopus give that excess power to British consumers for pennies.
That's an argument for better connecting infrastructure and storage, NOT fewer sources of renewable energy.⚡️
Yes, building a massive steel tower takes energy. But once it's up, it spins and generates entirely zero-emission electricity for 25 to 30 years. You're looking at a 6-month construction phase and completely ignoring the three decades of clean energy payoff that follows.
Where is @wideawake_media's eye-opening video about the enormous quantity of energy, steel and concrete required to build a coal-fired power plant or an offshore oil rig?
@TonyClimate Dismissing basic physics and coastal geology as 'imaginary' doesn't make you the lone objective truth-teller in a world of sheep.
It just means you’d rather preserve your contrarian brand than admit that two things can be true at the same time.
