you spend your entire developmental arc having things just come to you, you never learn how to learn, or how to study, the method is never absorbed because the result is obvious.

then you hit adulthood. you hit real problems. serious mathematics that requires 20 years of accumulated knowledge, for example. at that point there are no longer clever angles that substitute for acquiring knowledge of the domain and methodology.

and since you never learned to acquire the domain, you're now facing two problems. you lack the knowledge, and you lack the skill of intentionally acquiring knowledge.
you'll think you're experiencing some kind of cognitive decline, like you "lost it"

and at that point you need to do what everyone else does anyway. you need to learn to be a beginner, how to study, methodology and procedure, to recognize when that 'infallable' intuition is actually bullshit, how to test your own thoughts instead of just admiring them as some latent byproduct of genius.

and once you've done that, you're no more special than everyone else. you might have unusually strong raw abilities, but they've held you back more than anything.

so the mythology is bullshit. they're cursed with basic competence and a sisyphean ego, not gifted.
